Tell me more about the School Board election process

Fairfax is an area where you would expect conservatives to moderate in order to have a chance in local elections, but they refuse and as a consequence, they get slaughtered. The noise that they are currently making ENSURES that local Democratic voters will be engaged and mobilized in a cycle where they otherwise shouldn't be.

Yup, the Republican Party here and everywhere has been focused on crazy and not viable candidates.

Any of them would have been better than Omeish who was endorsed by the Democrats.

Remember her being stopped by the "brutal" police? Funny how that worked out once the video was released.

The Muslims were the victims of 9/11.

America is evil because of Iwo Jima.

And, she lives on "stolen Manahoac Land."

I hate everyone on the current school board but can’t decide how I feel about these 3.

Hard no on McElven.

Definitely no to McElveen (and anyone else who sought higher office and failed) even if he gets the endorsement which it sounds like he is expecting to do easily.

If the GOP is smart, they will put on CLEAR cut and dried examples of votes by the SB incumbents and re-treads.

Example: McElveen was the first to introduce the amendment allowing transgenders in our school bathrooms.

Do you bother to read what you write? You make it sound as if trans kids should simply be denied access to school bathrooms.

If you want to argue McElveen is OK with biological males in girls bathrooms, make your case, but that’s not what you wrote.

They all have opponents:

Thank you! Also how in God’s green earth has Karl Frisch raised nearly $200k?? WHO likes this guy that much??!?

His funds come from out of state.

Mostly west coast/California.

He also gets financial support from nqtional donors.

He has very lottle support from fcps parents and local families.

No one cares what I think but I feel like you should only be able to fundraise from your own constituency. I feel like people who live out of state don’t know about our local issues by not sharing our lived experience here & I really don’t think their funding should be able to influence our election.

I don't care who donates to them as long as they're responsive, and Karl Frisch always has been.

Frish ought to be responsive to the majority of the students he has the privilege to represent, not just a minute and very vocal fraction of it. Frish has prioritized pushing the trans agenda in our school system at the expense of the academics, and to the mental and emotional detriment of our student body.

Radical gender ideology activists should have no influence whatsoever in our public school system. Donations to Frish are not coming from families with students in FCPS, but rather from adults or organizations who hate women and yet disguise themselves as feminists. Outsiders, most of whom don’t have children themselves, should have no say on how our children in FCPS should be educated.

Frisch needs to be unseated. He's unfit for public office.

American Muslims were absolutely victims of 9/11. Other than those who lost people that day, the impact of 9/11 was most felt by the Muslim community in a backlash. She was dead right, you just don’t like it.

I’m sure that all can also acknowledge the absolute disgrace that was the US treatment of native Americans including the ignoring of treaties.

He was correct there and saved FCPS a lot of money with that decision. Unfortunately he then turned around and spent it on Dunn Loring which is questionable at best.

Honestly yes. My kids went to Shrevewood and it was so overcrowded - this new school in Dunn Loring will finally ease overcrowding in the nearby schools as Tysons and West Falls Church develop. I don't care about the dog park, but I like this new school site better than Oakton.

Wow. You don't think the impact on the military personnel who were killed overseas as a result were victims?

You don't think that all Americans were victims? Changes in the airports, changes in lots of things.

I am very sorry for any mistreatment of people as a result. But, when you have people like Omar saying 'some people did something" and Omeish who could not even acknowledged the significance of 9/11 to the people who lost loved ones and lived in terror, then you really don't get it.

Her lack of understanding is especially egregious considering the connection of her mosque to several terrorists--incljuding the Fort Hood shooter.

Just because you prefer the new location, it doesn't mean it's a good idea. The Principal of Shrevewood has effectively eased the overcrowding at Shrevewood by moving to a cluster model for AAP. Many of the kids are leaving for Lemon Road. If the right numbers leave, it leaves Shrevewood in an excellent position. Unfortunately if too many move, they'll have to reduce their teacher positions. Either way, Shrevewood now is in a better position than it has been in a long time. But make no mistake Karl Frisch has done nothing to serve the population of Shrevewood. He's useless and needs to be voted out of office.

When Omeish puts "living on stolen Monohoac land" on her twitter profile, it shows a total disregard for many. Sure, Native Americans were mistreated. That was wrong. They also mistreated and fought with each other. But, it just shows that she is only interested in grievance.

How often has she expressed grattitude to the country where she was born. She calls herself a Libyan. That says a lot. Why doesn't she call herself an American?

Key Word - "WAS" overcrowded - it no longer is overcrowded and neither are the schools that are around it. This project is a $60 Million waste of money that Karl Frisch is fully responsible for. Elected officials should be good stewards of tay payer money. I wonder if any school board member in history has wasted more money than Karl.

Think of the addition that McLean High or Chantilly high could have had with this money.

The Dunn Loring school is surrounded by under-enrolled elementary schools - Cunningham Park, Freedom Hill, Vienna, and Stenwood.

The only thing that might have argued in favor of building there is that there's an existing building that could be retrofitted and expanded. But that's not the plan now - they plan to raze the charming old building and build an entirely new school.

The overcrowding at Shrevewood - and it's not so overcrowded now post-Covid - could have been simply addressed by moving some Shrevewood kids to Stenwood and some Stenwood kids to Freedom Hill. That could have been done years ago and it would have saved $60M. Dunn Loring won't be ready for years.

But, when it is built, it's going to require massive boundary changes at Stenwood and Freedom Hill, and it's ultimately going to get in the way of building in Tysons, where a new school really should be planned to address the growth that feeds into other schools - Westbriar, Westgate, and Spring Hill. That would have been far more consistent with the county's ongoing residential plans for Tysons. Instead, we'll just end up busing more kids longer distances - all so Frisch could make especially sure that the funds originally earmarked for Blake Lane Park were never going to be spent there.

It's a total boondoggle, and at a minimum Frisch should have been investigated for wasting taxpayer money in this fashion. One can only wonder how he benefitted in return for such a stupid project.
