This happened for a lot of reasons. As for Metro, everyone knows that they will tell you if you will have play time or not. A club like theirs doesn’t need to be telling you lies so you can sign up with them. They will always have the top girls in the area lining up to play for them every year. Whether you agree or not, it’s just facts at this point. VA Juniors is a club that will most likely let most of the players on the team play and they have great recruitment results.
Not true, but it's very obvious what club your daughter belongs to. I'm sure they tell the players who won't play that they won't play beforehand, just like they wait to tell returning players that they are being cut until actual tryout day.
Regarding the comment “Everyone knows weather or not you will have play time or not at Metro” That’s completely inaccurate, Silvia doesn’t operate that way period. She is up front and let’s parents and players know court time isn’t guaranteed it’s earned.
Just like she is up front about giving kids notice in advance that they're on the borderline of being cut? I personally know of 4 metro travel players who were cut on tryout day without having been given any prior indication that their spot may be in jeopardy. And these kids were all afraid to go to other clinics/tryouts for a backup because if Metro's club director found out that they had gone to other clinics it would have been held against them and they probably would have been cut.
If that's true, it's evil.
It's not like you don't have options after you are cut from a good team. There are plenty of reasons why you can be cut from a very competitive team. Maybe you didn't work hard or other players worked harder. Maybe the coach didn't like your skills / attitude / personality. Let's say you are cut from Metro and you don't want to accept an offer on any of their regional teams. Plenty of other clubs have makeup tryouts. There is always movement after the original offers are sent out and you may even find a spot on the top team of a different club. You get a new start and have a whole new season to reflect on what happened. Your best option would be to meet them on the other side of the net and make them regret their decision.
"these kids were all afraid to go to other clinics/tryouts for a backup because if Metro's club director found out that they had gone to other clinics it would have been held against them and they probably would have been cut "------‐------> this is evil, like another parent said,
Metro coaches are not good at coaching skills/Volleyball skills, Metro team stronger than other Chrva teams because the players have the talent and Metro lured them from other clubs to make other clubs weaken. why hold against kissids going to other clinics?
That Metro coaches aren't as good as those at other CHRVA clubs (usu. Paramount) gets said all the time on these forums and it simply isn't true. Like every club, Metro has good coaches and less good coaches, but the idea that Metro is as successful as they are without having good coaching is ridiculous. If they weren't preparing girls well then college coaches wouldn't want their players, but they have far better recruiting outcomes than every other CHRVA club. I'm sure someone will say that college coaches just care about height, but every year the entire Metro 18 Travel roster goes on to play collegiate volleyball, most in D1. While there are obviously some tall players on those teams, the other players all get recruited too. Of course there is always room for improvement, I think most of the criticism of Metro on DCUM is unwarranted.
