Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
We get more than a week off for it every year at our school! |
But no christmas parties. No christmas parades. And most of it is "winter break" |
It's as if the White Witch has taken over MCPS and made it into the land where it's always winter but never Chirstmas! |

My kid school has trick or trunk & fall field trip so far this year, and I don't care if they call it celebrate fall or halloween. It is fun for kids. The same I don't care if they celebrate christmas or winter, as long as there is a classroom party, kids are happy. And, I am happy for them. We don't have any religion belief.
I think I have attended Hanukkah one time, and some other religion festival. DH finds me weird, and I tell him that my hometown accept every religions. |
Me either but I am curious why they have named religious holidays for some and are masking the names of others. It just seems odd to me. |
Not everyone celebrates christmas, which is why schools don't. You celebrate at home.. simple. I would not let my kids celebrate just a christmas party. Not our holiday. |
Which religious holidays is MCPS naming? It's not RH or YK or Eid, those are just listed as no school days. In fact, the only mandatory religious holiday in MCPS is Eastern Monday, and that's a state rule. |
They should just name all the holidays. What a joke. |
You can never celebrate a holiday with another group or culture unless you specifically celebrate it yourself? That's pathetic. |
You wouldn’t let them attend a Christmas party? Are you really this extraordinarily close-minded? |
Not at school. It should be inclusive and a Christmas party is not. If its something a friend did, sure, but not at school. |
At school, its inappropriate. |
At school, especially as a child, you feel like you're not being given a choice. You will sing this Christmas song, you will watch a Santa movie...even though you're well aware that that's not at all a part of your life. And it's not done in a way to educate, it's done under the guise of "Christmas is for EVERYONE" and of course this is fun for you! Except that it's not. Outside of school, you're CHOOSING as a family to help celebrate the holiday of a friend, neighbor etc. I love going to Christmas parties when people I care about invite me. I do NOT like it being shoved down my throat in public or at school/work. |
The commercialization of Christmas in public (already beginning now) must be hard for you given your generally intolerant attitude. |
How is intolerant to not enjoy something that holds no meaning for you? |
