Yesterday around 4:00pm on the outer loop between Telegraph and Eisenhower a large accident had completely shut down that part of 495, and the traffic had backed up to the mixing bowl. When I drove by it again at 7, VDOT had multiple scene investigators, the outer loop was still closed, and the back up extended into 95 all the way down to Woodbridge (according to WTOP).

There is nothing a truck convoy can do to 495 that 495 doesn’t already do to itself on the regular. Last night looked like a traffic nightmare of epic, but normal for the Beltway, proportions. No one is going to know any difference. It’s a complete waste of their time.
