tell me about colleges that didn't make your kid's list

This thread is fun because the reasons students like or dislike schools are so funny. My DD scratched Wake Forest (nothing in the area around the school and no diversity - sorry not trying to start that up just being honest), Temple (she wants urban but the area around the school was too gritty and most of the bldgs on campus seemed older and run down) & GW, NYU & BU (no campus feeling) and Middlebury (parents loved it but she thought it looked like a plantation without the manor house).

Among the other reasons they wrote off a school--can't remember which one--was that (during an information session) the "students seemed too nice--not relatable" and "students couldn't think of anything negative to say--nobody likes anything that much."

So a lot of colleges are off the table for someone so wounded by what has been pretty normal in society in general for years. LGBT groups are normal. Affinity groups are normal.

I’m guessing Hillsborough or Liberty are safe spaces for you.

Of course those groups are normal and no one is suggesting they shouldn't exist and play important roles in a school. But anyone who has been around college/university or even high schools lately knows the difference between inclusion and diversity and white man shaming.

The problem is, while some of those white men will stay progressive and supportive of diversity, a not-insignificant number are going to be turned off by it and will veer hard to the right.

There are few US universities whiter than UVM - Inclusive yes - environmentally focused and committed yes - but this is not a place where people are shamed for being white. And the Gender inclusive vibe has been here so long it’s simply not a big deal - unless it’s a concept you are not yet comfortable with.

This is a quintessential white, UMC school and has been that way for 40+ years. You must ski. Take that for what it's worth. They're definitely not white man shaming, that's hilarious.

UVM is absolutely a place where Caucasians are taught to feel guilty of being white as well as denounce everything White. Sad, though. They have a crazy "professor" who proclaimed curry was racist and another professor who spoke out against white discrimination and was then targeted to be fired even though he held tenure.

Those bernie liberals up there certainly do shame people for being White.
