July 4 is a Thursday - Any chance we get July 5 off?
Note: If you want to accuse all federal workers of being lazy slobs and insist that we just take annual leave for the day (like you do any time anyone asks about the possibility of a day off announced by the President), assume that we have already heard those arguments and feel really bad for even asking about this and for leeching off the American people who already pay too darn much in taxes without a bunch of bureaucrats asking for a handout of even more time off. We are ashamed about it, ok? Ashamed, but still want to know... |
| Not trying to make myself seem better, but crap I hope not. I have about five things due that day and don't want to shorten my deadline to the 3rd. |
| I'm thinking no. |
| I don't think there has ever been a precedent set for an extra holiday other than around Christmas. Though I wouldn't mind a bit. |
| Sincerely doubt it. But I'm furloughed that day anyway. |
| 14:58 again. I'm thinking the only way to get a day off other than July 4 is if July 4 falls on a Sat or Sun (in which case you get Friday or Monday). Otherwise, no deal. |
| No way in hell. |

I think Christmas is really the only time they tend to give the Feds off. Given the furloughs, I can't seem them giving any paid days off, but hopefully to the extent possible, they have allowed people to use their furloughed days for things like this (so you don't have to have an unpaid day AND use a vacation day).

My Fed District Court, Bankruptcy Court, and the District's U.S. Attorney's Office has been closed on July 5th in the past when it fell on a Friday.
No word on this yet for this year. |
| Not a good time, PR wise, for that. |
Agree. OTOH, feds haven't had a pay raise in 2 or 3yrs and are getting furloughed. Might be a nice morale booster. |
|
Do what the rest of us do: take a vacation day! Then you will know if you are off that day....
Seriously? You need to ask this question.
|
| Zero. The IRS is furloughed. |
|
There are a lot of furloughs that day (some agencies that offer self scheduled furlough days, a lot will be off that day).
There's no way it'll be an extra day off. Not a shot in hell. |
| None. You're wasting brain space by even wondering about this. |
