Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 3

Anonymous
On next month's SCOTUS docket is Gamble vs US. No 17-646. This is what the rush is about. Yes, they want him to overturn Roe, yes they want him to drag us all back, but they need him seated for October to rule on that specific case.

At stakes is the "separate sovereigns" exception to double jeopardy. If he (and the other 4 conservative judges) vote to overrule it, people given presidential pardons for federal crimes cannot be tried for that crime at the state level.

Trump can pardon the lot of them and they have nothing to fear from state's attorneys.

Hence the rush to get Kavanaugh on the court.

If this is successful, our republic and the rule of law is dead.

Yup. She was a Holton-Arms, Columbia Country Club girl. Now she (and her husband) own a $3 million house Palo Alto and a $1 million beach house in Santa Cruz.

Only poor women can be victims of sexual assault? I’m not sure I follow your argument.

A PP condemned Kavanaugh for his white privilege. I was pointing out that his accuser has led a life of white privilege, as well. That's all.

They both went to private schools, lived in Bethesda, belonged to country clubs = rich. Both came from rich families. We've established this. Now move on.

Did you tell the liberal poster who blamed "white privilege" to move on? I was pointing out that you can't blame a Kavanaugh for white privilege when both parties are rich.

My question: Why can't someone else, say the Montgomery police department, ask Safeway for those records?

Why can't Safeway volunteer those dates?

In my experience, if you are checking out an applicant for a job, you can call and any employer will give their dates of employment.

Why not call Safeway and ask? Can't anyone do this?

Why is the President micromanaging the FBI “investigation “

Ya, so much for Christopher Wray and an independent FBI.

Property values in Palo Alto have skyrocketed. If they bought the house a decade ago they did not pay $3 million.

Whatever they paid, it was still quadruple the price that "regular" people could pay.

Not how it works in silicon valley, sorry. The price is what it is, and you pay it or you don't buy. She is a professor and presumably her husband is employed.

Like many academics, she also has outside employment. She has worked for a pharmaceutical company for example.

Yes, we know. He could have midnight rituals eating children and he would still be pushed forward by GOP now. They have to cover their asses big time.

If he is smart, he will withdraw, keep his present judgeship and pray reporters will forget about him.

Good luck with this.
Ronan Farrow has lost a lot of credibility with his last story. He can search all he wants. He will find nothing.

Keep on keeping your head stuck in the ground.

She’s not expecting a top job in the country because of her privilege, dopus. It’s not really relevant.

It's her husband's job with Big Pharma.

Somehow, I don't think she gets jobs by going in and yelling that she went to Holton and Stanford.

She doesn't have to yell it. She puts it in her job applications.

He was yelling because he is enraged by this false accusation and the Democrats' dirty tricks to take him down by humiliating and embarassing him. Ridicule is a big tactic employed by liberals.

I think he will be confirmed, but barely.

I am sure that if anything, with the crazy way real estate has appreciated in Palo Alto, that she is worth far more than Kavanaugh. I hope it bothers him. 'Cause I'm petty.

It's her husband's job with Big Pharma.

Plus I'm sure her parents are gifting them the full amount every year. That alone would pay most of the mortgage.

I didn’t go to Yale, have no connections there and no nothing about the ability to get in.
But, the fact that you all are arguing over whether being a “legacy” means he has “no connections with” YLS tells me that HE didn’t consider it a “connection” worth discussing since this fact is so easily checked.
To argue this as a lie is just petty and will not go anywhere. In fact, it’s ridiculous.

And that isn't credible. A grandfather having gone to Yale is in fact a connection, no matter how much you want to deny it.

People make ‘phone calls’ all the time. Especially those that have given money or that are willing to give a substantial amount of money. I’m not against that as who else is going to pay for the nice things at the school? It’s not going to be me.
My issue would be when these privileged folk who get in think that they only get in on their own merits when in actuality there were maybe 29,000 equally qualified candidates who were rejected (subtract out about 15% of the applicants as being unqualified and that’s what you get). Some of the rejected applicants, many of them really, were actually more qualified than the rich applicants.

I worked for a major university. I was IT tech support when I was younger. I have been in the room when wealthy donors called in to remind the university of their donations and to let them know that their niece, nephew, child, grandchild, whatever was applying for admission. Also when they called to get football tickets because they had *some* tickets but needed more tickets to give away when the game was sold out.

As you say, that only works when the alumnus is a big donor. No evidence his GF was.

Are you kidding? If the parents can but him a house in Chevy Chase of course it started with a Yale contribution. Probably a Prep one too actually.
There is no ‘evidence’ of such things unless the family wants a library named after them. You can contribute to a school anonymously and now I know why someone might choose to do that.
I was at Prep today and didn’t see any ‘Kavanaugh’ buildings I can say. Didn’t look at all of them though..

Poor prep boys..

Election betting odds at 66.5% in favor of confirmation. At one point in the last couple of days it was nearly 85%. Dipped below 60% yesterday.

He's not expecting a top job because of his privilege, either. He has an exemplary record and a top-flight education.

Really....wow do liberals condemn conservatives for their "privilege" and not rich liberals? Is it because....shudder.....he is that most hated of all, a white male?
