| I'd like to think it is because we are sooo special, but... |
| Because whenever anyone asked a serious question about PG County schools in the MD forum, they were bombarded by people asking why they would ever send their kids there and MoCo is so much better blah blah blah. It really stifled the discussion. |
|
Is this a serious question or a troll? I guess I will go ahead and answer in the event this is not yet another MoCo poster who think this Is some kind of racial bias...
It was hard to filter through all the negative responses from people who did not even have experiences with PG county schools. It was also hard for threads to gain traction because they were easily buried by the amount of MoCo threads on the maryland forum. In addition I think we are hopefully on the verge of trying to turn things around. It helps to talk to other people who are vested in the public school system and get feedback and ideas of things that are working at other schools in the county. |
| Actually I am almost positive this is a troll. I wish I hadn't bothered. |
| Not the OP and not a troll, but I don't think the way to respond to the anti-PG bs, which is mostly racist, yes, is to create a separate forum. I said so at the time but I guess I was in the minority. Maybe I should get my own forum. |
| PP. can you suggest another way to respond to the anti-PG bs on the MD Schools forum other than clogging up the thread with petty fights? |
| OP here. No, I'm not a troll. I guess I've lived in PG too long and have gotten paranoid. I guess when I begin to think the nice people on DCUM are segregating us I should step away from the computer and breathe the air outside in my beautiful, large PG yard. It is good to hear the reason is instead because people are interested in building substantial, useful conversations about PG. |
| Well we asked for a separate board, it wasn't just thrust upon us. So I am not following the "they are segregating us" train of thought. And really either you are jaded or a troll because your post is just dripping with the sarcasm that is so commonplace on the MD board when discussing PG. Or it could just be my paranoia from my beautiful, large pg yard. |
Actually, I was on the original thread where a PG resident actually suggested it. She then wrote a website request to the moderator to ask for a PG Schools forum. So, no, this is not about segregating the PG people. (I'm a PG resident.) The issue was that a PG resident was searching for information about PG schools, and doing a regular search on the MD schools threads yields a lot of the same old snarky "don't live in PG' responses. The idea was that instead of having to sort through all of that to find useful information, we'd be able to just go to the PG Schools section and scroll down the titles to find information. I still think it will take time to build a resource of information, because there aren't as many (or doesn't appear to be) PG people on here. But it's possible there are more PG people who visit here than it seems on the surface but that they generally don't post about schools because of the flood of nasty responses they get. |
| I am very happy about the separate forum. It was pretty much impossible to get productive feedback for valid school questions. |
It is your paranoia. I really was so paranoid that I really did think they were segregating us. I was not being sarcastic. I guess you have been on DCUM too long as well. |
|
I feel both of you on the paranoia.
But, I am glad to see productive discussions about schools in our county. And yes, I love living here and do it on purpose. My kid's in public, btw. |
| I think people have gotten more substantial answers to recent questions - in the general MD forum they often went by and nobody saw them to answer them. I think this is much more helpful. |
| I just realized this forum was added...thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If any close in county needs this forum for schools...it is Prince Georges. With 3 kids under 3, I am navigating all my options now and it was difficult to get insight via the other threads. |
