Two Mom or Two Dad Families

Anonymous
If you are a two mom or two dad family and you send your child to a DC public or chart school, what school? And how is it there?

Thanks!

not one, but my kid has been at Murch 4 years and every year in class with a child from a two mom-two dad family (two kids from two different families). both kids and their parents seem really well integrated into the school community. kids have a lot of friends, go to playdates/have friends at their home for playdates. parents seem to have very good relationship with other parents. again, I am not them, I am a parent of another kid at the school, but this is what I see

I was going to say that no one looks twice at Murch. Many different types of families at the school.

It sounds like Murch is great. Any others?

We are not a 2-mom or 2-dad family, but we have children at Brent. I can think of 4 or 5 families at the school (and I probably only know about 20% of the families in the school well enough to know). These families seem very well accepted and active in the school.

I know the founder of Two Rivers is half of a two-mom couple. Their three kids attend TR, and she is awesome (as is her wife).

That said, I don't think it's uncommon at all, at least not at the Hill elementaries in general.

We are a two-dad family who will be sending our children to Sela. We have friends, also a two-dad family, who are sending their DC and were pleasantly surprised to see some two-mom families at the recent information session. One of their founders is also gay.

Our kids go to Capital City PCS. Very queer friendly.

There are 3 same sex families in my kid's PK class alone at Inspired Teaching. Very diverse community.

Another Cap City parent here - my kid's class alone has at least two mom/two dad families and no one blinks an eye.

There are same-sex families at MV. We are friends with one family and they are happy with the school's inclusiveness.

Have been pretty impressed with the openness and inclusiveness at both Ross ES and CHCS.

There are two mom families, two dad families, single (gay) dad families at Oyster-Adams. I can't speak for them, or the rest of the school community, but no one seems to care about the sexual orientation of any parent, gay or straight. The kids of these families are treated as any other, from my experience.

In the middle school, the counselor started a group for LGBT students (don't know the particulars of the meetings or how well they were attended, but the group was for all students regardless of orientation--support for those who identified as LGBT, and support from straight kids).

There are gay faculty and staff at both campuses, and the administration supports them, as well as gay families. Oyster-Adams had a nice showing in the DC Pride March last year, with the principal walking alongside families from the school.

O-A isn't perfect, but this is one area where they get it right.

PP here.

Should have mentioned there are probably single (lesbian) moms, too. I am going only from the people I know, but that's limited because I have only one kid and don't know the parents from all other grades.

I think Ross has several same sex parent families.
