Yu Ying China Trip: How did it go?

I know they haven't gotten back yet, but how is the 5th grade class trip to China going? Any disasters? Major teaching moments? Surprises?

not a YY parent here, but you say the trip is going on now, they have not been back yet, and you are already looking for a disaster? can you at least wait until they are back to ask? is it that hard?

They have a travel blog. I think it is a public site - I'll check. Lots of pics. Sounds like they are having a great time.

My friends whose kids have gone have been posting on FB. All seems to be going great with them (albeit a small sampling). What a great opportunity for the kids! Signed, parent who will never have a kid at YY so no dog in any fight

A co-workers child is on the trip. Child has experienced some mild homesickness, but is otherwise having a great time and co-worker is bragging about how much Chinese the child is speaking. Photos make it seem like the kids and adults are having a great time.

I wonder how it's going for the kids who weren't able to go on the China trip. I heard from someone at the school that the kids who stayed home have only English class for these two weeks - because their Chinese teachers are also on the trip. Hope it's not true.

Clearly you're not a YY parent, so why do you care if they speak English or Chinese for 2 weeks? The children are not being beaten. They're learning in English.

Yes, because the natural alternative to not learning Chinese for two weeks at a Chinese immersion school is to be beaten.

You guys are so ridiculous!!! Do you know how much instruction children in DCPS have missed due to testing this year for DC CAS, PIAs, and mock DC CAS?
