The Infomercial

So what did you think? Love it, hate it? Too much? Just right? Buying the election? Moot point now since the race is practically over?

Very well done. Older retired couple in Ohio brought tears to my eyes. I was really moved with the live closing.

Very touching. Loved the ending.

Thought it was fantastic! Very well done technically and was clear with solid facts regarding Obama's plans on healthcare, taxes, education, etc. I also think the sharing of the human stories was a major plus and shows that he gets the struggle many Americans are facing with the economy tanking.

The infusion of his biographical info was smart as well. The ending reminded me of some of his early speeches, inspiring, unifying, hopeful.

I soooo hope to be calling him my new Mr. President 7 days from now!

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is all I can say. I felt like he knows my family, my values, and what I need to survive. I am hopeful that all Americans will realize this is what we need at this moment in time.

Excellent. Nice to have someone who offers a positive message.....

I cried. Very moving. Made me realize though that I really believe in this man and have high expectations for his presidency. I hope he does not disappoint.

I had the same feeling. The last two minutes (live) really got me and then it occurred to me that there is no way that he can live up to our expectations. I will still vote for him next Tuesday, but am already preparing myself for the inevitable disappointment.

OP here, I had the same thought. I hope he does not disappoint, but how can ANYONE be successful in the White House right now given the MESS they are inheriting?

I will always wonder what would have happened if Gore had won in 2000... or more accurately, if he had been awarded the election in 2000.

I also am ferverently praying for Obama's safety. I really worry about crazy, racist people out there and hope they secret service does an extra-good job looking out for him. IF he wins.

Was I the only one who felt like they were in a revival tent?

Honestly, guys, did you really think it was that good? I'm a big Obama supporter, but I have to say it was disappointing and, I thought, a missed opportunity. Many of the comments here prove my thoughts: it was too emotional, just a lot of feel-good and random people talking about how bad their life is. I wanted to see some PRACTICAL SOLUTIONS to their problems! What, EXACTLY, is he going to do that is so different?

I can't believe it will convince anyone to change their vote or even "close the deal," which was the supposed purpose of the whole thing.

I, too, very much enjoy policy discussions, though I find Obama's health care and tax plans fairly clear at this point (243 debates with Hillary later, I feel like I could recite them).

The audiencea for the infomercial were
(a) undecided voters, whom research shows decide with their hearts and guts more than their heads. They tend to have read less about the election and the issues than the average voter, and tend to say that the person's character/image/personality means more to them; and
(b) younger, first-time, and "returning" voters (people who are registered but skipped one or more of the most recent elections), who had a great deal of enthusiasm early on but who are historicaly less likely to close the deal. They, too, benefit from a wake-up call, a "what's at stake" essay, and an upturn in the emotional arc.

I saw this informercial as a well-crafted piece to address that need. The "ground game" is damned good, but this helped. It was a GOTV piece as much as a persuasion piece, and the type of persuasion is more the man, than the plan.

I might also add that with McCain on the attack about plumbers and terrorists and socialists, Obama had to fight back without appearing to fight, both answering the attacks and sticking to the calm and presidential demeanor that scored him such high marks in the debates.

I was pro-McCain but switched to Obama after the Palin nomination. I had very many doubts that Obama could come thru on his promises. After seeing this infomercial, I am now an Undecided voter. As the above poster mentioned...Obama missed a huge opportunity to present his plans for helping these people. There are many citizens out there in bad times and neither candidate had shown how they will help. The tax cuts are a bandaid - what is the big solution???

The purpose of this infomercial IMO was to reassure undecided voters who are not comfortable with a black man as president, that he is not too "different" and that he is American and not somehow "foreign". It served its purpose, I believe.

I think he did a great job at providing a direction. Hardly anyone could layoput an entire plan to save country from being ruined in 30 minutes. If it was that simple, Palin could do it
