| Any thoughts on the two? My DD was accepted to/will attend another independent school in the area, but I've been hearing lately that these two schools in particular lowered their standards big time this year - any info? Friends with a DS in elementary are thinking of sidwell later down the line but obviously will go another direction if there is anything unsavory happening. Also, why didn't all the schools do early admission? I thought it wasn't allowed? |
| Uh - is this a question, statement or an answer? |
| I don't understand your post, OP. |
| I heard the opposite. Record applications and record scores at Maret and Sidwell. DS was in the middle school applicant pool with upper 90s SSAT. Didnt get into either. |
| I am also aware of a dc with top grades, SSAT in high 90s, athletic, artistic, etc. And was WL at both. They are super happy about where they are going and so all's well that end's well but i dont know where OP's info is from. |
| I heard applications gone up this year for the Big 3 schools. We know a lot of rejected families and very few admits to Sidwell, Beauvoir, GDS this year. |
| Sounds like OP was bored and just wanted to make something up to stir up a controversy. |
| I can't speak about Sidwell, but at my DC's independent school, a boy and a girl were accepted at Maret for middle school for next year. Nothing about either student stands out -- I would describe both as very average in all areas. When I heard they were going to Maret, I remember thinking, Maret's admission standards must not be so high, at least this year, so maybe OP is not off the mark. |
Really, you judge your children's classmates. You know their grades? |
I have no interest in going down the conspiracy trail with OP. But it's worth pointing out that two of you so far have pointed to stellar kids getting waitlisted. Instead of refuting OP's story, stellar kids getting waitlisted is actually consistent with OP's story (fabrication?) about the average kids getting in. |
| You want your kid to get in under "lowered" standards? WTF. |
| Maybe grades aren't everything and they are looking for something unique in the children you have labeled less than stellar? Perhaps they are more well rounded? More creative? More down to earth? |

Marlarkey: noun.
meaningless talk, nonsense Sentence: The OP's post is a bunch of malarkey. |
Funny when your kid doesn't get into a particular school the admit standards are low. But if your child is accepted than the standards are above par because your special dumpling was admitted. Maret and Sidwell will be just fine without your malarkey. |
+1. Love that post. Special dumpling and all. Laugh of my morning. |
