Just curious... I am 30 and between my retirement accounts I now have $65K. I was in grad school until 25, so only really saving (besides roth each year) for 5 years. Currently make $85K a year. I am single, so no partner in the picture.
I want to know specifically about when you were 30.... |
| Probably about $1,500 at age 30. |
| I had around 70K, but this was during the downturn. Back then every contribution looked like it was going into a black hole. I'm not sure how helpful these responses will be as the market has varied so much throughout the years. |
Nothing
I lived check to check. |

I too was in grad school until I was 25. When I was 30, I had $47,000 in my 401(k).
Net worth was $195K when I was 32 (dont' know how much of that was retirement money). At 35, net worth was $564,000. At 40, it was $1.2 million. |
| About $600K or so I think. |
| nothing- but I had some savings of about 150k. now husband and i have about 600k -6 yrs later |
| Seems to me like you're doing fine. Just don't stop contributing and always get the matching contributions. There are many many people who don't contribute at all and, honestly, I'm 33 and I think I have the same amount I did when I was 30. The market has been fluctuating so much it hasn't even mattered. |

25 = $1,000 (and no debts)
30 = retirement $69,000; other non-house savings: $110,000, income about $60,000 35 = retirement $142,000, other non-house: $330,000, income about $75,000 40 = retirement $270,000 other non-house: $360,000; income about $100,000 (had bought house, got married, had 2 kids = these things put a damper on my savings) 45 = retirement $530,000, other non-house: $900,000; income about $130,000 (received $400,000 inheritance) |
| None. I just started last year at age 37. |
| Probably about $20K. |
| $4k |
| zero. started at 35. |
|
$75K at 30.
Nothing until 26 as I was in grad school. $150K now at 33. |
| I think I had $1000 in my retirement account at 30. However, now that I have finished residency and have a real job, I plan on contributing the max. |
