Do you think the first grade teacher has any real input on the GBRS? |
Assuming you are referring to the GBRS with Commentary (versus the GBRS that is assigned each year starting in Kindergarten) -- not really |
How is the GBRS determined if a kid moves from another county to FCPS for Second grade? Will it affect somehow for AAP selection? |
no. at our school they aren't part of the committee. they do however identify children for advanced services at the base school. |
The GBRS with Commentary is completed for every child that is screened. It is completed by the local screening committee. |
The school does GBRS in K and 1st grade? Is this something we can request to see? this is a surprise.. why is this done if it's not used for AAP? (what is it used for?) |
I guess you could see it as it is part of the student record. Contact the AART at your school for more information. The GBRS is used for placement in advanced academics, specifically Level II or III services in K-2. See the Local Plan for the Education for the Gifted (page 5) for more information: http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/pdfs/localplan/FinalLocalPlan.pdf

Thanks for your response. I am not familiar with 'GBRS with Commentary'. My understanding was GBRS is prepared by the class teacher. My concern was my daughter will be joining FCPS only from second grade and with only a few months into second grade, kids will be appearing for Cogat and GBRS will be sent to the selection committee by teacher. |

Thank you. |
