red kitchen cabinets?

I'm considering painting my (old oak) cabinets red. Thoughts on red?

I think it's very bold! I like it, but maybe not for all the cabinets. I like the style where the bottom cabinets are a different color than the upper cabinets.

If you were picking out new cabinets and choosing red, I'd say no. But since you're trying to extend the life of old cabinets, I'd say go for it. It's a little bold for the style of my house, but it could work in yours just fine.

If you plan to sell anytime soon or before you change them out, realize you are limiting your buyer. We looked at one home that was nice but had teal kitchen cabinets. They were nicely painted but we couldn't get over the teal and we are very handy people. It's one thing to have to paint old wood cabinets, but having to paint over red may be a deal breaker if we couldn't afford to rip the out immediately.

I love that! It looks great but I agree, maybe reduce the amount of red somewhat. It could be overwhelming in real life.

Chinese new year or autobody shop

I love bold colors, but I'd be much more inclined to paint the cabinets white and the wall red. WAY easier to un-do if you need to.

I would not buy a house with red cabinets.

Trying too hard.

I agree with the re-sale comments but if you're doing it just for yourself, why not? I've seen some really cool kitchens with red cabinets (although I'm not sure I love it with the grey walls as pictured above).

McDonalds I've not lovin' it

I love red generally, so maybe I'm not the person to ask. But I think it looks great. Agree that it would make it harder to sell your house. But if you are planning to stay there for a decade, do it! Just be sure you do a great job of prepping before painting.

I've seen red cabinets I like, but I don't like it in the example above. The cabs aren't modern enough to pull it off, in my opinion.

I like it. Just make sure it matches the rest of your decor if you have an open floor plan.

If you love it - do it. But if you are thinking of selling anytime soon - I wouldn't do it.
