Interesting article on "promposal" trend:
http://www.centralpennparent.com/Because-Im-the-Dad/May-2013/Promposal-or-Apocalypse/ I suppose this is mostly limited to coed schools, but is it intimidating for the girl? |
| This has been around for a while, but it has gotten out of control. A kid in Rockville faked a car accident to get the attention of his planned date. |
| Totally ridic. |
| That. Is. Insane. |
| Prom is not a big deal at DC private schools according to my children. |
| The one on one prom date is antiquated. Kids now prefer to go in groups of friends. Parents organize the after party to avoid trouble. |
Umm, no. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/elaborate-promposals-are-now-the-norm/2013/04/30/f0ee9ddc-b110-11e2-baf7-5bc2a9dc6f44_story.html |
Sickening. And these people complain about the cost of private school. |
Yes on the after party, definitely not on prom. It's all about the date, the asking, etc. The promposals at DCs school are usually videoed so they can be put on FB. I think it's kind of cute. |
| This is one area where there's no difference between public and private schools. The promposal is a big deal, as is the before-party, photo ops, prom, and afterparty. |
| Can someone explain how promprosals got started? How/when did it become such a big deal? |
| This is absurd. Given I asked a guy to each of my proms since I wasn't dating anyone in my grade, I guess I'd be even more of a loser these days. |
| This is totally a cheesy public school thing. Notice, every interviewee in the article was a public school kid. |
Oh, Bunny, darling! Those public school children are so déclassé! Thank the stars for our "elite" private school and Mrs. Simpson! *sniff* (You couldn't make this stuff up.) |
| Not just a public school phenomenon. Pretty cute, usually, and not crazy or expensive from what I've seen. |
