We are looking at moving. The areas we are looking at feed into the following elementary schools. Any insight about any of the following schools is appreciated. I know they do not all feed into the same HS.
Lakewood Cold Spring Beverly Farms Fallsmead Ritchie Park Bells Mill |
| All good. Would avoid richie park. |
PP, what is your personal experience with Ritchie Park? What information are you basing your statement on? |
| not the person who posted but the principal at ritchie park is really, really bad. There have been many threads on this topic. The school also has a punish first, ask questions later model and is just punitive in general. There is nothing positive going on in that school. Everyone is pretty much unhappy and hates it, school staff, the parents, and the kids. Some of the teachers are good, but in general, it is a miserable place to be. |
| I agree. Dd was there and pulled her. |
| zGo to Cold Spring. You'll be very happy. |
| This is, literally, the 5th thread Ive read on how bad the Ritchie park principal is. Anyone care to elaborate? |
|
DD is at Lakewood and I just love that school!
Would be happy to answer more specific questions if you have them. Over all I couldn't be more pleased. |
| OP here. Thank you for the replies. It seems like Ritchie Park has not really changed. I actually went there as a kid. Overall it was not the greatest experience. Back then the principal was not good (my mom had many run in's with him). There were a few good teachers that I can remember (I was only there for 3 years--transferred in from a private). One teacher told my mom my sister was retarded and could not learn (she had learning disabilities they would not address at the school back then). My parents pulled my sister from the school. I remember my mom saying that they would have moved if they could have afforded to to get us into Cold Spring, Fallsmead or Lakewood. |
I don't the ritchie park has ever had a male principal. |
| We are very happy at Bells Mill. |
|
Any parent who has a "run in" with a principal has either an issue herself or there is something wrong with the kid.
Why else would a parent be interacting with a principal to the point where there is a run-in? |
OP here. Yes it has. I'm not going to. Name him. I don't think it's right to do on a public forum. |

Depends whether you want Wootton or Churchill for HS. All those elementary schools are good so go with the house you like and the HS you want for the future.
Bells Mill and Beverly farms are relatively new school buildings so that can also be a consideration. |
