Good morning
Just wondering if anyone tried crossfit training and if you can give me some feedback. Worth the $$$? Did it help you to tone up and lose a little weight? Thanks |
| I love it! I'm down 2 dress sizes and have a lot more energy. Pick a gym that you like - I think mine is more "nurturing" than some of the others. |
| Very cult like but an excellent workout. It's for people that can't/don't want to put their own workouts together and like the camaraderie of group exercise. They do a good mix of cardio and weight training so good for full body. |

I love it. While I can't say that I lost weight doing it, I was much more toned.
That said, I'm no longer doing b/c of the money. It's very, very expensive. |
can you tell us which one it is that you go to? i would like one that is nurturing and welcoming. It's a little intimidating for a newbie, IMO. |
| It's crazy expensive, isn't it? Can't you get the same type of workout in a traditional gym? |
Absolutely. If you know what you're doing. Crossfit is for people that don't. Or just really like the group aspect and funny lingo. |
| I'm an avid fitness buff and hated it. It wasn't nearly as challenging as they advertise and the whole box gym culture is not for me. I also don't like paying 3x as much for 10x fewer exercising options which is what would happen if I dropped my gym membership for a crossfit box. I do feel better on Paleo though. I'm old enough to have experienced a lot of fitness trends (jazzercise, arnold style lifting, boot camps, Zumba) and this one is one of my least favorites. |
| Super expensive, but effective. I suggest checking out bodyrock tv online for free workouts and getting the Spartan Race WOD (workout of the day) emails. |

OP here,
Thank you for the responses. Will check out bodyrock tv. The only reson I was thinking about doing this "non brainer" type of fitness is due to a very limited time to work out. I only have an hour for strength training and want to cover the whole body so don't want to "waste" time on thinking which exercise to do next. Thanks again for the feedback |
| If you need a "community" feel, then it's worth checking out. I would try it for 2 months and see if you like it. For me, I need to be able to go to the gym when I want to and I need a place where I can shower right afterward. Crossfit doesn't provide those things. |
| Bodyrock tv is awesome. Pinterest has tons of workouts. Beachbody for dvds. You can get crossfit workout of the day online and do it yourslef for free! |
Sure - Secondwind Crossfit on 14th Street NW and Longfellow or Colorado. It's a really great community - there is a foundations class to learn the lingo etc before you start the actual classes. All body shapes and sizes. It's really fun. |
Ugh, I was hoping and dreading that you might say it was Secondwind - I live nearby and keep seeing you guys...it looks like fun, but the groups I've seen all look in much better shape than me, I just think I'd be too intimidated. |
I just started at this gym ("box"?) and have to agree--super intimidating when you're looking from the outside. It took me 1.5 years to muster the courage to walk in and sign up for a trial. And the only reason I did was proximity....now I'm in the newbie class, and yes, there are all sorts of fitness levels and no judgment (unless you're really self-critical). There are a couple of us middle aged women with varying fitness levels (me, no formal exercising in 3 years, and injury prone) , but Im inspired by the women in awesome shape who've been crossfitting for a while. They had to start somewhere too. I agree that it's expensive and i agree that if you're motivated you can get this workout on your own. But given that when I actually do get to my big chain gym (which entails driving, parking, etc, not to mention childcare question), I usually just park my ass on an elliptical, plug in headphones and 45 minutes later get off , slightly sweaty, to crank out a few reps on the machines that I know well. I don't push myself particularly hard, and I don't try new things, and I don't get to walk there and back. |
