We are planning to submit an appeal (DC had strong test scores but did not make it in the first round) and I was wondering what constitute good WISC scores (that have worked for appeals in the past).
I have read in other threads that the committee looks mainly at the Verbal and Perceptual scores, and are also looking for subscores of 17 or 18. Any truth to that? How many 17s and 18s do you need to have? Also, if you have any other suggestions for additional material that could strengthen the appeal please share. Thank you! |
FSIQ 130+ is generally considered safe. |
I submitted WISC in original file, FSIQ 133, GAI 144, but we did not get in. |
Has anyone submitted homework as a work sample? If stuff from home can't be trusted, but we don't have access to anything at the school. Could we consider homework? |
We had work produced in school that had already been sent home. There were items that the teacher had kept that she sent in, but I had a lot of stuff to choose from that had previously been sent home. |
That's very surprising. Get into local III, then try again next year. |
Wow! What were the other scores? NNAT, FxAT, GBRS? Did you appeal or is it now? |
Don't bother with work sample stuff. WISC is the king. |
if you get a good enough score. Or is that a foregone conclusion? |
Really.. it's all number game. Work samples, awards, recommendation letters stuff all useless unless it's really something extraordinary. Good WISC in, bad WISC out. |
Right. And the paid testers make out either way. Which is why they keep touting it. |
Sorry if you want appeal, WISC is it. Just a fact. |
PP here with 133 WISC. That was in original file, so now we have to appeal. What do we appeal with?
Looking at Stanford or Woodcock but not sure about the difference, and what DC has better chance on. Does Diana Dalhren also give advice on what is better to do? Have not called her yet. |
Would you try another test and appeal? I don't know if new information is good enough with another recommendation and some work samples, or if I really need a test score. |
Would recommendations and works samples really be considered "new information" for an appeal? |
