Nah, MCPS should do it to provide oppurtunity to FARMS kids to attend schools having less than 20% FARMS. It will help some FARMS kids a lot who are in position to opt for it.

If it can be done for magnet then why not for FARMS kids. I am not from Whitman.

Rather than allow affordable housing in the Whitman area parents would rather low income students spend 90 minutes on the bus (while it picks up kids from all the DCC high schools) each way to have the "privilege" of attending school with the most entitled students in MoCo

All of option 3 could be argued to be assuaging white guilt by busing kids all over. Pretty sure BOE sees it as “trying to equalize FARMS rates across schools.” I guess it just depends on whether you want to trash or support it.

45 minutes is a long ride. But somehow it’s now ok bc at least it isn’t 65? That’s not logistically consistent.

65 was based on a student taking a public bus to Rosemary Hills from Garrett Park to catch a bus to Whitman. A bus that picked up 30 students across the entire DCC and then went to Whitman would take much longer, especially if it picked students up at their doors. If they each had to go to centralized bus stops it would be a 2 hour commute each way for many of them.

But yes, 45 minutes is materially better than 65 minutes. 65 minutes is 40% longer than 45 minutes

But the eastern half of Viers Mill is within the Wheaton walk zone, so shouldn't be bussed to WJ.
