Craziest Thing Someone Has Said to You...

Anonymous
First off, this is not meant to be a thread to bitch about all the insensitive and terrible things people say (you just need to relax?!). It's also not meant to disaparage anyone's actions or choices. However, sometimes people say things that are just so awful you have to laugh, right? That's what I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced.

I had a nurse draw my blood a few weeks ago and I was commenting on how my veins were pretty crappy cause I'd been doing this for a long time (3 years). She said, "Well, sometimes, God says no!" I had no words. I think she realized how awful she sounded and tried akwardly to backtrack. I went home, told my husband and we just had to laugh cause it was so crazy awful.

Anyone else have any awful dark humor to share?

Not to me directly, but what about all the infertility/IVF hate on the "what do you secretly oppose" thread on off-topic. I was floored that so many people who have never been through this have such strong opinions.

My acurpuncturist basically told me I won't get pregnant until my dog dies.... he told me a story about a prior patient that had a cat that always slept on top of her and as soon as kitty died she got pregnant. This was in response to a comment I made about sleeping with my dogs.

Someone told me I looked pregnant a few weeks ago. I'm in decent shape, but had on bulky clothes.

Instead of dwelling on it, I thanked her for thinking that I look young enough to get pregnant --- I"m in my mid 40s

From my mom - "I know how you feel, you were the greatest thing that ever happened to me."

In her mind this equals me not being able to have any?

I think she only means that she understands your strong desire for children because they are wonderful and she loves you intensely. I don't think this is offensive or intended to be anything but sweet.

My Mom told me to stop roller blading for exercise bc I was rattling my eggs, and my brother said my DH must be too quick on the trigger...WTF? this was supposed to be helpful?

My husband's brother made a comment that he could "fill in" for my husband if he wasn't getting the job done.

Seriously.

I had a miscarriage at about 9 weeks and was being prepped for a D&C. A nurse asked me if I wanted the pnemonia shot. I said yes and then another nuse said pregnant woman can't have the immunization. She realized what she had said pretty quickly but it was awkward and odd and unapprecaited, despite that it was an honest mistake, of course.

A friends boyfriend said to her, which she for some unknown reason relayed to me, that God made people the way he wanted them to be and if someone can't get pregnant that we should take that as a sign and not intervene. Meaning if you need IVF you shouldn't be having children. I only wish I was less appalled and quick enough to have pointed out that her boyfriend shouldn't have had those surgeries in his twenties to correct his congenital heart defect...thats how god made him. Still makes my blood boil.

My mother-in-law called me days after coming home from the hospital after having a ruptured ectopics..."I demand to know if you can produce an heir!". We aren't "heir" type people...no big trustfunds or anything.
