what do you do about red eyes?

Anonymous
My eyes are always red - it makes it horrible to put on eye makeup because I don't really love accenting all that red. They are not irritated or anything, I just have strong veins I guess. Any ideas?

Sorry to ask this, but are you drinking alcohol late at night. Serious hard liquor dehydrates you and can make your eyes red the next day. White wine does the same to me. So I just gave it all up.

Hmm....I never thought about this, but it makes sense.

OP, perhaps you can google "chronic red eyes" and see what you may find.

OP, I have constantly bloodshot eyes no matter what I do. I finally came across something called ocular rosacea, and I'm pretty sure that's what I have. I have regular rosacea, so it makes sense. Do you?

10:31 here again. Unfortunately, there's no treatment.

I assume you've tried drops, like Opcon-A, that are formulated to remove redness? Works for me.

Interesting - this is probably it, although it doesn't affect my skin, those eyes in the pictures I googled do look familiar! So sad, guess I will have to just live with it

Oh, and I don't drink a lot at night - it really got worse after I had kids :-\

I'm the PP with ocular rosacea. They're not meant for long-term use, unfortunately.

I was convinced that I had ocukar rosacea as well but in a desperate google search, I found that a dairy allergy can manifest itself in a similar manner. I gave up dairy for a few days and it got SO much better...and my skin did as well!

I also find it interesting that another poster mentioned it getting much worse after having kids because that was my experience as well.

Chronic dry eye? I have red eyes all the time and they are so dry. Last night I got up to use the bathroom and my eyelid was stuck closed. I could not open it because it would pull on my cornea and hurt. Doc has been zero help with this. I tried restasis and no help either.

I have heard dairy is terrible for you - I already avoid milk so it is worth a try! thanks for the tip - I do LOVE cheese though

I have very red allergybeyes in the morning. Opcon A does the trick

for dairy restriction, are you very strict? checking packages for small amounts of dairy side products etc?
Anonymous
I am the dairy poster from upthread...I am not super strict about trace ingredients. Giving up greek yogurt and cheese were the biggest changes and it really made a world of difference for my skin and eyes!
