Kombucha

Has anybody else tried this/gotten into it? I just made my second batch and I love it! If anybody here is into it, how did you get interested in it? Have you noticed any health effects, good or bad? Do you have any recommendations on spicing it up (I heard you can add berries for a different flavor). I just tried it because a friend introduced me to it and I thought it was interesting.

No, I am not a hippie.

OP here. Me, neither. I guess that's why I'm (rather lamely) asking for more info on DCUM

I think it's weird and interesting, and I thought maybe there were others out there who feel the same way.

What is Kombucha?

This is not a new thing or a fringe thing, it is sold in WF for God's sake.

My husband makes his own. It has helped control his diabetes to the point that he does not have to use insulin. He watches his diet, excersise and drink his kombucha.

He also introduced his colleagues to the vinegar tasting drink. That individual has watched his blood pressure stabilize.

Now, I have been drinking it off and on for a year and have not noticed any health related differences. But, I continue to drink.

OP, I made it years ago when I lived in Europe. I got my starter from a friend whose girlfriend had health issues. Where did you get your starter?

Op here. I got my starter from a very good friend who has been making hers for over a year. She regularly gives people who are interested a starter scoby. I find it interesting and oddly tasty.

It's a gateway drug! Soon you'll be buying hundred dollar crocks and making your own sauerkraut and kimchee! Don't do it, OP! It's a slippery slope!

I kid, of course because who cares how much you ferment. Although my sister is a big fermenting hobbyist now and it all started with kombucha.

I know a guy who has been making it for years (like 10 years - yes, he IS a hippie), and I swear it's slowed down his ageing process. He's over 50 and looks barely 35.

I personally think it's revolting.

I love it! I made it a couple of times, but haven't done so in a while. i'd love to find another scoby. To me it doesn't taste like vinegar or anything - it just tastes "clean" somehow.
