$71 sushi take-out: how much tip?

Anonymous
Would you give 0? 20%? 10%? Round up to $75?

I'd round the total up to $80 - maybe knock $2-$3 if it they were incredibly slow or something.

If in doubt, tip up - especially if this is a place you regularly order from, or would order from again.

Depends on who handles the take out order. Is there someone staffed to process the take out orders? Is the restaurant empty? Or is it processed (ordered, bagged, check rung) by a busy bartender taking time away from customers seated at a packed bar to take your order? (Tara Thai on a Tuesday afternoon vs Sushi Co on a Friday night)

I just remembered why I don't eat sushi.
You know, besides the nasty taste of raw fish and algae.

Scratch that - I was thinking delivery. I don't tip more than $2-$3 for take-out, if anything.

I never tip for take out.

Do chefs participate in tips???

I would pay $71 plus tax. Stop bitching it up for the rest of us. TAKEOUT does not require a tip you braggy woman.

When you tip the waiter at a restaurant, you are tipping for their table waiting service. With take-out you just pick up boxed food. There is no table service, thus there is NO TIP.

I waited tables for years and always tip very well now when I'm dining out. But tipping on take out is completely ridiculous.

You don!t tip on takeout.

If the people are especially nice and you do take-out regularly from this place, I'll sometimes tip $1/per entree or per person we're ordering for.

Otherwise, you don't need to tip on take-out.

I don't tip on takeout either.

If it's a pizza place or someplace that does a lot of takeout I don't tip, but often at a sushi place or someplace like that I'll tip a couple of bucks.

+1. I waited tables and hosted for ten years and it would never occur to me to tip on a take out. All they did was prepare the food, put it in a bag and carry it to the bar. I guess good for the people who do, but I don't see why.

I just started tipping on take out in some places, never used to. I would do $5-6 on $71.

At Two Amys the waiters seem to organize the carry out stuff. So I feel like I should tip something. And at one of the chinese places we go they have a whole staff handling carry out. They always thank people who tip.
