Home Theater Room Seating, Tiered vs Sectional vs somehing else?

Anonymous
We have a 20 x 20 home theater room that we are going to add seating to.

Our AV guys said that a sectional would be the best and to not waste money on tiered theater seating.

Anyone have pros and cons? Any first hand experience?

I love sectionals. Tiered seating doesn't strike me as being very useful, plus if you ever want to use the room for something else it might get in the way.

Thanks I love them too but was wondering on how they would do for home theater seating. This room is dedicated for home theater use.

sigh - I can't believe this is a real question
but in my dream world where I have a home theater it would be pack full of floor pillows and have a comfy sectional - all of which would be moved around so we could camp in there on our virtual camping trip (I could even put a virtual mountain and creek scene up on the screen!)

Enjoy!

I love lying down when I watch TV, or snuggling with others so I vote sectional.

Thanks for the info I am not sure why it wouldn't be a real question. I would like to get some opinions before committing to building a platform, buying the seating and bolting them in.

PP couldn't believe it would be a real problem (and I'm pretty sure she was being ironic) was because this falls into "rich people problems" which those of us who are not rich greatly enjoy mocking. Enjoy your room!

Bunk bed sectionals.

You're welcom.

We did tiered seating with HT chairs - motorized recline. They were really comfy and we set them up as four "love seats" - no arms between two seats. For couples. Or piling on a bunch of kids together. Very comfy and functional (cupholders, foot rest).

I don't care for the look of sectionals, plus wouldn't it be difficult for some people to see the screen if they are facing the side?

Search on the pallet HT seating - I think they used a bunch of mattresses.

If you have a home theater room 20x20 - how is it you're not at least somewhat rich? Did you spend all of your money on your home theater room? I am pretty sure if we had an extra room - well our kids wouldn't share...

I bet you could find some great ideas online if you just google images of home theater seating

Well, that depends on were OP lives. If OP lives in Arlington or NW, yes. If Vienna, not so much.

True I could get good ideas but the pictures won't be able to tell me personal experiences of whether to use sectional seating or tiered seating. Of course all the pictures online show sectional seating because it's the most dramatic way to do the room but I am interested in comfort and practicality.
