hysteroscopy to remove scar tissue - how long for recovery?

Anonymous
Hi,

I had a myomectomy 3 months ago to remove few fibroids and now there are some scar tissues where the largest fibroid used to be. My doctor wants a hysteroscopy to look at the area closer and remove if necessary. It's late and I forgot to ask how long I need to be out of work if we end up removing the scar tissues and how long for recovery before we can move forward with our frozen cycle.

Please share your experiences.

Thanks!

Hi OP, I had a hysteroscopy after a complicated m/c and d+c. it only took a couple of days to recover and that was due to the anesthesia. I had bleeding for several days and it took awhile to figure out where I was in my cycle due to m/c, but things got back on track after 30 days. GL to you

I had a hysteroscopy and surgery two and a half months ago. Like this PP, my recovery was fairly quick. My Dr. (performed by an OB who worked with my RE) wanted me back in in exactly 2 weeks to make sure scarring hadn't reformed...and he said it looked great. He released me back to my RE immediately, and I just had my ET for the IVF cycle I started the following cycle. My RE said he saw no scarring issues (I had my ET under anesthesia), during the transfer.

My scarring/Asherman's wasn't caught for nearly 9-10 mos after my D&C, and during that time I had noticed my periods starting lasting a bit longer and cramping that was just different than anything I'd felt before. I noticed things seemed more "normal" (for lack of a better word) in my first cycle after the surgery. It was all much easier than I had expected (which is saying something on this IF journey).

Good luck to you!

1:04 here again. I forgot to mention that I don't think they will remove the scar tissue on the same day as your initial hysteroscopy. For me at least, they wanted the former was in the OB's office while I was awake, and the latter was a surgical procedure under anesthesia. If you're initial visit is under anesthesia, you'll be out of work for at least that day...but I returned to work the next day. Otherwise, the hysteroscopy in the office only took about 20 minutes, and I went straight back to work.

For those who had scar tissue removed under hysteroscopy, how long did you have to wait to TTC again through IVF or otherwise? Could you start on your next AF?

2011 - myomectomy - 6 weeks recovery and rest

Mid April 2013 - hysteroscopy and laparoscopy. Removed scar tissues the same time. 1 week recovery and rest. I drove to work 9th day after the procedure.

6 weeks rest after the procedure before starting IVF.

End May 2013 - IVF# 1

Yes, I did IVF my next cycle...once the OB had confirmed scar tissue didn't reform.

When was the next cycle and how did they confirm didn't reform?

They did another in-office hysteroscopy a few weeks later to ensure there wasn't new scar tissue. For me the next cycle was the one that started with the period after the exam (which happened to be about 2 weeks later).

so how many weeks after the hysteroscopy was this? i.e. 2 AF's later, or one?

One AF later (about 2 weeks after the scar tissue removal). I don't think it was based on my next cycle, just based on his wanting to follow me every couple of weeks after the scar tissue removal. But he said things looked so good at my first visit (no new formation at all), that he felt comfortable releasing me back to RE right away.

After my hysteroscopic procedure three months after I went for a scan and was discovered that more masses have been formed in the uterus

I was able to cycle (IVF) with the next AF, but mine wasn't extensive (I didn't need a balloon or anything).
