Yu Ying Gala

Anonymous
There was recently a big push by room parents and on the listserve to get parents to buy tickets for the Yu Ying annual Gala/fundraiser. A really big push. Which makes me think that not enough tickets have sold.

So, am I right? Do Yu Ying families plan to attend the Gala? How about accepted families (assuming they've been invited)? If not, why not?

I've attended every year since we were admitted parents, and will this year too. This year there weren't that many emails about it, so I wouldn't be surprised if they needed to do a push now. On the other hand, I didn't notice a big push either, so maybe I'm just not paying close enough attention.

Advertising is very gentle this year, but I like the more professional constant contact format. I feel like a couple hundred people have attended each year. It would be a surprise if this year were any different.

are newly admitted families invited? Tix are 75$ apiece

They have been in the past.

Yes, we are newly admitted and were invited.

I hope that new parents attend. It is a great venue to meet other parents and the teachers.

I thought that anyone who has tickets can get in--no school connection required.

Anyone can "get in" who buys a $75 ticket. Presumably there is a maximum number of tickets to be sold.

For whatever its worth, spouse and I have bought tickets to this year's gala and plan to attend, even though we did not in past years. So there certainly is continuing parent interest.

I want to second 16:35 above - it is a great opportunity for new parents to meet the school community!
And yes, the event is open to the public. Anyone who wishes to attend is welcome to buy a ticket.

Do YY parents buy tix, or every family gets 2 but you are asked to sell to others to raise funds? $75 is understandable but also quite steep.

every ticket has to be paid for. half the money raised goes to the school and half is saved to fund the next year's gala

Yes, every ticket has to be paid for, and includes a lovely catered buffet, as well as beer/wine/soda, not to mention the entertainment. With a live auctioneer, the auction itself is an incredible spectacle!
It is a great time all around!

I second the above poster. It really is a fun time.

In my 5th year as a YY parent and attended the gala for the 1st time last year and had an amazing time...will be attending again this year. Can't wait to see everyone there!
