Ergo Carrier

Anyone used one beyond 20 lbs? The bjorn is painful past 20 lbs, and I am wondering if an ergo would be worth it? If you have used an ergo, to what weight? And would you consider walking around all day carrying a 21 lb baby in an ergo? I don't want to purchase it and then not use it. thanks!

completely ... I LOVE mine and its can go on the back

OK, but aren't they around $100, and with a 20.5 lb baby, how long can we use it? I don't like the idea of buying things that won't be used to justify the cost...

I used mine until my kids were 4 and then sold it for $25. My kids weighed 30+lbs. when I stopped using it. They stopped wanting to ride in it, I would have kept using it.

From their website:

ERGObaby recommends a weight limit of 40 pounds for its carrier; however, the carrier has been tested up to 90 pounds. Our carrier will accommodate you as long as you would like to carry and/or your baby would like to be carried.

If I were buying a carrier now, I would skip the Bjorn and go right for the Ergo. Loved it!

youll get years of use ... even a well loved ergo would sell on criagslist FAST

best thing out there. My 3 1/2 yr old weighs 40 lbs, I use it all the time. No pain. Could not stand the bjorn., hurt my neck

we've been using it with our 30lb 14 month old since he was a 20 pound 6 month old. Best money I ever spent - IMO the Bjorn SUCKS!

OP, thanks for all of the specific responses, I appreciate it!

Did folks use their Ergo with a newborn or after a few months? I have a sling for my soon-to-be-newborn and am considering also buying the Ergo....

My second baby lived in a sling as a newborn, so I bought an Ergo for use down the road. I did use it a bit before she walked (at 12 months), but for me, using it since she's been a walker seems cumbersome. When we walk or hike, it's been easier to have her walk and be carried, and use a stroller when that's more appropriate.

We started with a MOby Wrap and then moved to the Ergo when baby was about 5-6 months old.

Used the Moby and Maya ring sling at birth. DH started using the Ergo w/ DD at 3 months (no infant insert) and we are still loving it at 8 months and plan to use it for a very long time...

we carried our newborn in a the Moby or a sling and then moved her into the Egro after 4 months. She's now 14mo and we still use it all the time. IMO, its 1000x better/more comfortable than the Bjorn!

We got our Ergo when our youngest DS was 11 months. He's now 2 and still rides in it. Occassionally my 3.5 yo will also ride in it. As you might imagine for children of those ages, both of them are well over 20 pounds. It's pretty comfortable even for a couple hours.

I still use it for my 38 pound 16 month old and it's great. He is super heavy and it still does not hurt my back.
