recommend your recipes with plain yogurt

Anonymous
DS decided he no longer likes plain yogurt with fruit (which he ate every day until like a month ago). I have a big tub of the stuff (just bought it hoping a different brand might make a difference - no dice). Any suggestions on what I can make with it? I made a banana bread but it only took 1/3 cup of the yogurt. thanks.

I use plain yogurt in place of sourcream. A no-bake cheese cake will use it up. Otherwise I'd lean toward mexican food.

You can marinate chicken in it. I do chicken kabobs marinated in yogurt and mint on the grill.

Tzatziki

Here is a basic recipe

I recommend putting the grated cucumber in a strainer for an hour to get the water out.

Tandoori chicken. Here is an excellent recipe: just omit the food coloring:

And if you still have yogurt leftover, you could use it for a raita to accompany your tandoori chicken. Add some naan and your meal is complete!

Also, you could just eat it as is too! Yogurt doesn't spoil in the fridge, it may get more tart, that's all. I eat plain greek-style yogurt with a drizzle of olive oil, a bit of salt and a sprinkling of za'atar with lunch almost every day.

Use it in any recipe that calls for buttermilk. When I'm out of buttermilk I'll use maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the amount of yogurt then add milk to make the amout of buttermilk called for and stir it up.

What about making smoothies? Yogurt, fruit, and ice in a blender. Nice now that it is getting warm out.

Definitely to marinade chicken or to make tzatziki. Those are our 2 uses when we buy plain yogurt!

Here has some easy yogurt recipes http://www.easy-homemade-yogurt.com/Easy-yogurt-recipes.html, I like the one with brown sugar, and Matcha Brown Sugar Yogurt.

Good luck!

Agree with the marinade. I also use it in place of mayo in tuna salad. Smoothies of course are a good option. I eat plain too with blueberries honey and walnuts. Yum.

This. I use frozen fruit instead of ice, and sometimes add milk to thin it out a bit.
