Since when is Mila a nickname for Margaret?

Heard the news about Jenna Bush Hager's daughter. I like that she named her daughter after her grandmother, but I don't get the Mila nickname for Margaret. I mean, isn't that just a different name? It would be like naming your kid Abigail Mary but then calling her Ava.

It's not meant to be a nickname for Margaret. They are combining the names Margaret and Laura, to honor both grandmothers.

I like the idea behind Mila, so while Mila itself isn't a fave for me, the gesture wins me over. And the kid can decide later if she wants to be Mila or Laura or Margaret or Maggie or whatever.

Its a family tradition to name them after the grandmothers, so they didn't have much leeway on the name itself. I think Mila is a fine nickname. Beats Muffy.
