Have you attended any OPEN HOUSES yet?

If so, what schools have you visited already and what was your impression of them so far.

I'm not going to tell you which ones, but I've already been to FIVE schools. That number would have been six, but I had to change plans. About five more to go - argh!

And this was a useful response to OP's query because...?

I went to an open house and tour at NCS and a tour at Holton. Loved both schools so much, I wish I could go back to school and go to one of them. I only attended the lower school open house at NCS, so I did not get to see much of the upper school. But was very impressed with what I heard from the girls and their athletic center and art studio are fabulous. Strong academic environment and I loved the discourse that I heard between the teachers and students. My impression is that NCS pushes reading and writing. You can tell that the focus at Holton is science. Hoton also has a great pool and the girls are required to pass swimming courses. We're leaning towards NCS which I think is a better fit for my daughter, not to mention a better commute. But we will apply to both.

Went to a few for lower grades. We are looking at the 'progressive'/'crunchy' schools. Like them, but the open houses are too lengthy. I may ask for a private tour from now on, if they permit. I really need to leave after 2 hrs! Tired of parents who ask a million questions and make comments that are of no help to anyone.

It's called sucking-up.

I know the parents you mean (they travel to every open house just to annoy us ; ) In my experience, it's often the poor out of place nervous dads who monopolize the tour/session. Moms should brief them before allowing them to attend.

They're not nervous--they're determined to make an impression. And they do! What kind of impression, now...

Ha, I bet we've been to the same ones. And all that walking! Up, down, here, there.

Talking about Progressive/crunchy schools I attended a Green Acres Open house today and was impressed by the facilities: classes, art studios and pool. I also attended a Waldorf school information /observation session, from what I saw , I liked Waldorf better. There, I saw a clear manifestation of the Waldorf philosophy. At GA I did not see a consistency on what they do and what the school stands for. Nice campus though.

Wow! It's amazing how we can have such different views after having been at the same place today! I respect your impression, but I have to say I was blown away by the school and everything I saw and heard.

OP here.
PP, what exactly did you see that blew you away? I have not gone to Green Acres yet but plan to attend next Wednesday. I will also go to Georgetown Day and Lowell. Progressive schools is what I am looking into but I will take a look at Sidwell as well.

Has anybody been to WIS or plans on going? Any feedback?
