I'm interested to see whether there will be reports in tomorrow's papers of certain DCUM YY bashers' heads literally exploding. In any case: Suck it haters!

Man's Head Literally Explodes
Washington Post, April 12, 2013. ROCKVILLE. Students and teachers at a weekend language school were stunned and horrified when a parent picking up his son from Chinese class died suddenly from an explosive cerebral hemorrhage. "It was awful," said one witness. "He was looking at his iPhone angrily and then all of a sudden his head literally exploded." "I mean literally, like with blood and brains and everything," the witness repeated. Medical experts contacted by the Post report that the incidence of "actual by-God head exploding" has increased exponentially since the advent of the internet.

Wow, you have a lot of free time on your hands.

The Washington City paper? Right, so this is the thing where they open it up to VOTES of the general public.

I voted for my employer to be the "best non-profit in DC." I voted for my dog groomer to be the "best dog groomer."

YY sent around an email urging parents to vote for YY as the "best elementary in DC." And they voted. My child's private school did not send around this email, so it didn't occur to us to vote. But, my dog groomer DID pester me with that email, so I clicked on it and they got a vote.

City Paper, to really get the wonderful vibe of DCUM, should do a "most hated-on elementary school" for its "Best Of" edition.

I'm happy for YY. Of course it's just a reader poll in which people can stuff the box. But there's no doubt that YY is among DC's best public schools, whether it's your cup of tea or not.

My condo building last year was best building. Same deal, the sent the email around and asked to forward it to friends. Is it the best? Who knows?

YY didn't send an email to this parent, though someone sent an email of the results, which was the first I heard of it.

Ditto, don't recall any get the vote out email and I'm always on my phone. Would have voted for YY, if I had heard.

Happy to hear it won. Great school!

Totally untrue. We've been at Yu Ying since it opened, and this is the first I've ever heard of the poll, for this or any other year.

What I found interesting is that all 3 named schools (YY + runners-up Brent & Inspired Teaching) are very popular on the Hill. Maybe somebody on MoTH send around a message?

Isn't that a reader's poll? Founding Farmers was voted best american restaurant three years in a row. Does anyone really believe that is true. If so, I pity this city's taste buds.

Rankings like these are a mere marketing ploy to get people talking about said article and magazine...I am sure they select hundreds or organizations every year and Best of A or B or C.

Do they have a Best DCUM Thread of the Year

In any case, YY is a great school, as shown by many more meaningful indicators than this one...

We are at YY and I also had not heard anything about this on the vote was in. It's a bit of fun, that's all but I was certainly reading all the reader picks this morning!

No, just two years. Probably the "obama date night" effect.

Worst food, worst services - thank goodness the cocktails are decent.
