We spend around 18K a month, where does it go?

Anonymous
I am an immigrant who grew up with servants in my home country. During pandemic I have let go of my cleaning lady (after paying her for 4 months and helping her to get a job cleaning a commercial area). I am now doing all the cleaning at home. Yes, I am looking forward to mass vaccinations so that we can get the cleaners back.

There is no rocket science to doing chores and no specialized skills are needed to do menial chores. Most people can pick up tips from youtube. Yes, it may be boring and a time suck but that is a different thing altogether.

OP is doing everything with her money - saving for retirement & college AND living lavishly. I think she is doing fine.

OP, as has been mentioned, spending levels are relative. I have to think that you are asking this question because you feel like you aren't getting enough "value" out of what you spend every month. Your budget does indicate that you spend on several things that may not meaningfully improve your happiness - the shopping, namely. Do the clothes and random household stuff really make any difference in your life? Do they make anything easier, improve your relationships, give you time with your children? I don't think it is the amount you are spending that is a problem, it is WHAT you are spending on.

This has to be a troll post.

I would say so. This person who is obviously being very well compensated working in some field, so must have a level of responsibility, can't even decide on a household budget for themselves? Makes no sense.

I don’t think so. I think it’s a pretty typical UMC budget.

Anonymous wrote:$3000 on food??? What are you eating? I can’t imagine what you buy for $500 a week on groceries, then eating out on top of that?

Maybe lobster and champagne every night? Even that would come in under budget.

I also like the random $2500 in shopping expenses.

Why not save 5k a month and retire a few years earlier? Or maybe these are the idle rich?

I also love the lady who reports she hates spending money in cars but spends thousands a month in Botox.

Sure the budget maybe, but struggling over the budget? Huh?

OP really can't decide....I do want to spend 6K every year on kids clothing or I do not want to spend 6K every year on kids clothing? This person has 3 children, how do they function if they struggle over a trivial decision like that?

I mean jeez...decide what you want to spend and move on to something worthwhile.

I say, good for you. Enjoy your money. Why shouldn't you?

As long as you are saving money and not going in debt to sustain your lifestyle, why worry?

Cut out the shopping for adult clothes for a year...also 100 per month is max budget for hair/nails!

Odd. I was just at Baldaccis and the artichokes were $3.99. Which Baldacci sells them for $50?

Maybe this OP finds this a difficult pressing issue. OP - this is not something to worry about. Seriously. Yo can spend a fraction of that on their clothes if you choose or you could even spend a lot more perhaps if you tired but it is not something to fret about.

There is no right or wrong answer so not sure what you are looking for from anonymous posters. You just want to see if you are doing what other families are doing? Why? That is a never ending question of zero consequence.
