That's fine. You don't need to justify yourself to me. But the "will be better than DL" is questionable. That is according to FCPS teachers and administrators I have talked to in person. They say it won't resemble anything like a regular school experience. No collaboration. Limited class interaction. Masks. No lockers. No sitting with whoever at lunch. You'll be with the same 10-15 kids for core classes and lunch. And there will be tons of policing of social distancing rules.

I get that it may be something, but better than DL is subjective. And I would argue, wrong.

DL being better than hybrid at anything, including education, is subjective. And I would argue that hybrid holds all the cards.

You can argue anything you want.
The administrators and teachers I've talked to have said otherwise. I'll defer to them.

Maybe you should ask parents, who have watched their children try to learn from behind a screen for the past 3 months.

No need to "Try to convince (the author) otherwise". I was hoping that the piece was going to be a true pro and con involving going back to school in-person. It was just a 100% con and it completely lost legitiimacy with the math by implying 300 students will die in the school district alone. People talk about using science to dictate policy but when they distort science to dictate policy, I can't listen to them.

This guy is a total know-it-all. Grocery store worker here. Diminishing my dangers since I work in a "40,000" sq ft space with plexiglass is insulting. I interact with upwards of 2,000 people a day within two feet of me and the plexiglass that just barely goes over their head is gonna make me much safer than the crap this dude lays out. Unbelievable!

I would hate to be this dude's kids...wants to come across as totally open-minded but brings up all talking points that is so utterly simple for him to refute. Trust me, I'm not 100% in sending my kid back to in-person schooling...but this dude makes it seem that I'll be a contributor to a 100% infection rate among all students and will have to live with it if I do. I know people like this. They're called fake.

Teachers that repost this on fb...if you teach math or stat, I feel sorry for your students and they really should be distant from you otherwise they're screwed.

Cry me a river. Society as a whole needs to find ways to adapt and advance. This thing might be around us for many years to come and beyond. A vaccine will not be a cure-all. Life is not zero risk. I hope you dig a hole and hide until you think your risk is zero. Nobody will see you again.

302. 302. Wow, all the people buying into that crap needs to check their brain for a tumor. But on the flip side, I hope many buy into that crap and keep their kids home to distance learn forever so that my kids won't have to run into other kids raised by moronic parents.

DL is adapting and advancing. You just don’t like it. I don’t like it either. I know I will be filling in the gaps of my child’s education while working full time and caring for a younger child. Adapting means being resilient and dealing with disruption. Not having a tantrum online as you are doing.

Well you never really know, like I mean.... you know.

It took him like 7 hours to write that.

Do you last 7 hours pounding/being pounded?

Yea, the guy is a joke. If I get all those reactions from someone while trying to have a constructive debate, I know it's a dead end street and a waste of my (breath).

This is NOT a joke. The guy feels the need to have to constantly take (Deep breaths). That's an early symptom of Covid. He needs to get tested...he may be an unknowing spreader. I hope he is in quarantine.

Nope, the guy was probably not having sex and I hope does not have Covid. One that constantly sighs, eye rolls, and takes deep breaths is just condescending.

lol. I don't know what's funnier...the author implying 100% of students will be infected or the comment that he's just having 'sex'. If anything, it's bringing out the characters in all of us.

I do not nitpick. I started reading this article with an open mind and was certainly engaged at the beginning. When the writer stated "Go ahead, plant a flag on the internet and say, “Only 302 children will die”, I instantly thought I'm reading an idiot's post or one with an agenda. It's sad that people around us are either so dumbed down or are so gullible to fall trap into someone that is savvy enough to target those so dumbed down. I do not think the author is savvy though. The author too is dumbed down and hopes to illicit fear responses for the masses with distorted analogies, righteous accusations, and horrible extrapolations of numbers. No, I am not cavalier with the current situation...far from it - but if this is the "Best Post I've Seen in a Month", I myself need to take a "Sigh".
