Exactly!

Thank VOICE for promoting that view. Don't dare express concern about the rising numbers of economically disadvantaged kids in your schools. And certainly don't say anything about it to Talento or VanDoren. They will pretty much outright call you a racist.

Well bring it on then because calling everyone a racist is a solution.

Right, like I said you care about you.

The School Board tells us all the schools are great so what can actually be done by South Arlington residents? They know the research and outcomes and they don't care what we think. How can they actually be forced to react to wanting a better education?

Unless South Arlington residents get the SB members to recognize these issues with a lawsuit or bring "experts" to testify at SB meeting we might as well give up.

Thats not a bad thing. Please wrap your head around that idea. A little bit of that thinking would actually benefit everybody.

South Arlington parents could demand demographically balanced elementary schools instead of lobbying for parochial boundaries that perpetuated economic and educational outcome divides.

Why on earth do you think they aren’t?

How? By a few people showing up at SB meetings and going to open office hours? Do you want to make a change.org petition? Wear some matching shirts?

Can we get busses and show up at a school board meeting with hundreds of parents & kids? Are there any churches that would help fight this? Can we occupy the APS offices?

Yeah buying worked great in the past...

The south Arlington working group said that economic diversity was going to be a top priority for redrawing boundaries.
I don’t see how Henry ends up pulling their weight. It seems their Farm’s numbers will go down, but they should be taking in more.

These schools are intrinsically tied to the counties affordable housing policy. Unfortunately, AH is non negotiable for Arlington Democrats, even at the expense of other core functions of the county.

You heard it from Katie Bristol herself, the great millennial hope on the board; AH is her top priority. By definition, that means letting S Arlington schools continue to underperform as we try to squeeze in even more subsidized housing

Look, the current Henry families, even those who live outside the new walk zone, are going to fight to stay there just like what happened with MS and HS boundaries. Except that this isn't just a small boundary adjustment. South Arlington has a school that needs to be filled entirely. Some PU's have to be pulled in to make that happen. We already know they're moving the South Arlington PU's at Long Branch to Fleet. The question is how many kids that is and who has to be moved out of Fleet to make space? Based on feedback from the last few adjustments, Staff is going to recommend that neighborhood cohesion, walk zone, and alignment be the prevailing considerations. Not diversity. If you're the odd PU in your neighborhood assigned to a more desirable school, prepare to be rezoned.

Katie Cristol has her sights set on much bigger political office. She’s not about to put smart policy in the way of her political ambitions. She’s not evil. Just a politician.
