Not it isn't - not even close. Not even the wealthiest community in Cali.

Somebody seem to be confusing median and mean. The high profile Hollywood stars drive up the average (but not the median), but the majority of Beverly Hills are renters.

It would help if you quoted your source. Median income in DC is $65,800 according to the Census. http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/11000.html

Thanks for your post.

When we were younger, times were tougher.

You'll get there.

Additionally, priorities are different for each fam. No issues there.

I just couldn't stand folks ganging up on the frugal single girl all the while posting that they can't make it on 6 figures.

Middle class is by definition somewhere around the median income. If higher percentile a of income aren't upper middle class (75th and above), then what is?

Just because the middle class lifestyle has changed doesn't mean that upper incomes are now middle class.

Your post title is "an upper middle class existence", suggesting that your quality of life is that of an upper middle class. However, none of what you proceeded to describe qualifies as upper middle class.

Your HHI of 90k is actually below the median income for the area. So you are certainly not upper middle class even by that measure.

Stop pretending that you are somehow better than others. You are just average, very average.

Agreed.
This reminds me of if you cut back on starbucks for 10xxx days you can buy a car.

Is this the 80s? My dad managed to make it on 100K in the early 90s with my mom staying at home and living in a 60s built home in Fairfax. We definitely weren't swimming in money back then and I would imagine it to be worse now.

And if you broke that down by neighborhood the DC area has some that reach almost 600K HHI averagea year.

IT's like saying the guy eating out of a trash can in washington dc is rich because in some 3rd world country the average ncome is like 1 dollar a day.
