I am X years old and have X saved in a retirement fund

Anonymous
DH and I are in our mid-40s to later 40s. I personally have just under $1,000,000 in retirement ($980,000). He has almost the same (about $960,000). We own 3 rental properties, two vacation properties, and part of a commercial piece of real estate. We have quite a bit in savings as well (liquid) and college accounts for our kids are well padded. All that said, we use coupons, kids wear hand me downs or thrift store purchases, we both work, etc. We live frugally where possible but also spend on vacations, travel, vehicles (not overly expensive cars, but have several cars, about to buy an expensive boat, etc.) We're the typical "millionaires next door." You'd never guess it by looking at us.

Me = $680k (401k and IRA) age 48
She = $480k (401k and IRA) age 47
HHI = $280k
2 kids = 6 and 13
Savings = $45k
529 = for 13 yo = VA PREPAID =$35k
For 6 yo = VA VEST = $4k
Home equity= $200k
2 rental condos= $1500 rent each/each month break even with mortgage. Each valued at $260k = $30k equity /each condo

Need to do a better job of budget compliance. We are spending a bit too much.

40 and 42 here.

$2.8M all in including 600k (very conservatively valued) in home equity.

Big ten years of saving coming up. Trying to bank 200K a year. We were at $1.3 three years ago.

Cannot wait to evacuate DC with a bag of money.

Me, 45 have $380K in retirement, wife, 40, has $800K retirement (her smart parents contributed to her IRA since she earned her 1st dollar). 3 kids college funds in VA paid-off through VA Prepaid, and have about $200K total in VA529 Invest accounts. HHI varies between $500K and $1 Million, depending on our incomes / business - but trend is going down these day - but we could live off less than $200K if our situation changes. No debt, house and cars paid off. Most of our money is tied up in index fund ETFs outside of retirement accounts. We drive used or non luxury cars, public schools, modest house, don't spend money on fancy toys.

since you revived the thread ... how do you only have $380K in retirement savings if you've ever made $1mm in a single year? I made $700K last year (which blew my mind) and banked $300K in addition to $50K in retirements plans & 529s.

DW, 31, Roth 63K, currently unemployed

HHI 100K
Investment accounts: 62K
Equity in land: 210K
No kids, currently rent.

I feel so behind looking at some of these other numbers for people our age. Gotta buckle down and sock those dollars away. This is a great wake up call, thanks folks.
