Can we revisit the amount of $ the heads of these charter schools receive?
And people want more funding for charter schools? I think you have it…your principals and boards just like to spend it on themselves |
100% |
In what world is 94% a small group of people? You should try using an LLM to help you with reading comprehension. |
I don’t agree. Seems like a small group is complaining about ensuring teachers are on time. A few people were let go for reasons we can’t legally know. I don’t know why you think a school is “sinking”. By that measure dcps as a whole is fully sunk (wait that might be accurate). What do these protestors mean by “loss of IB for all”? It makes little sense to me but I’m an outsider. |
| The loud malcontents forget that most families actually want DCI to maintain accountability and high standards. |
I am once again asking in what world is 94% of staff, thousands of petition signers, and hundreds of students walking out a "small group"? Stop trying to make small group happen. |
I think there were like 12 kids in the walkout, most of the kids didn’t even know it was happening. The staff number is unsurprising, given how teachers rebel against any and all accountability at every school. |
Are there specific accusations about the board spending money on itself? Charter boards are volunteer positions; they should be raising funds for the school, they shouldn’t be getting money. |
The board is not getting paid. It’s fully volunteer. But don’t let facts get in the way! And yes sure, I am unsurprised that 94% of staff want to get rid of an exec director who makes staff accountable. Anyone would prefer to have a supervisor who turns a blind eye. However the one point I am still confused about is what is endangering IB for all? I truly don’t understand what that means. What actions are the board and the director taking that is endangering the IB for all? |
I am unsure if it is the same set of parents but some parents don’t like that DCI is offering more AP classes. These parents don’t realize that top IB schools in the U.S., especially public ones, offer AP classes because the scores help buttress the college applications of top students (top schools can be a little skeptical of predicted IB scores, and seniors don’t get their actual scores back until after admissions decisions are out). |
| DCI is the largest high school in the area, and one of the only diverse ones, and experiences challenges that reflect our area, as a school would. I am really starting to believe that this forum is just a release valve for AU Park moms and dads that decided to self segregate their children and looking for a place to spread their vindictive venom |
No one does anyone any favors when they try to say rigor is exclusionary. |
This is completely untrue. DCI has 1600 kids in the whole school 6-12. So maybe 900 in the high school. Jackson Reed has 1855. Even Dunbar has the same amount as DCI. Alexandria City has like 4000. And what kind of diversity are you talking about? JR and DCI have about the same at risk (15.5 to 15.9). Oddly DCI has 17% English learners to 14 percent at JR. But since JR has a larger population that’s many more students. |
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. The entire high school walked out. Watch the video. |
Your continued "teachers hate accountability" argument doesn't really explain why students walked out, alumni spoke out, parents organized, and community members testified publicly. At some point, it becomes statistically improbable that every group raising concerns is the problem. When your explanation for every criticism is that the critic is lazy, uninformed, manipulated, or disgruntled, you're no longer evaluating evidence. You're protecting your (wrong) conclusion. |
