Hong Kong, Korea, China no self respecting family has their child write their own essays. No one.

Nope. The said country is a massive country with tons of international students everywhere.

Not sure about the former two countries, but the latter country has faked everything!

Interesting. Asked bc son knows a group of kids from Hong Kong who bear no resemblance to the kids in their apps--they aren't even remotely connected to the world-saving majors, do-gooder causes, or earnest personalities they presented in their apps. Once they got in, they all just started partying (very hard) and became Econ majors with an eye to Wall Street. They openly find it funny how they gamed the system too. Wish there was a way for admissions to see that, but these consultants are good.

If you are really wealthy in China, elite western education with a recognizable name brand college is what those parents want more than anything. It is seen as something that can never be taken away from the kid, a sort of permanent indestructible inheritance. The amount of money they spend is insane to get into T10.

One kid that my child knows used to throw away socks and underwear after one use and just buy new ones.

Anyone who believes someone who makes blanket statements about the practices of students in 3 large countries is dimmer than the person who made that statement.

Do they offer jobs to poor American kids with merits in the school? I thought that's the whole point of having them to offer "connections"

I thought the whole ideas of having those wealthy kids in these elite schools is to offer good "network" and "job opportunities"... why would be people be surprised?

Feel like I know lots of American kids who apply as ‘classics/Philosophy/art history/literature/journalism/random undersubscribed major recommended by private college counselor’ who get to their Ivy and switch to Econ with an eye to Wall Street and start partying ….

Well can't blame them... they need to support themselves. Not everyone can go back to live with their parents

Are international students working in the US? Not many. They have to go back to their home country not work on Wall Street.
