On one hand I understand holding JVB to a higher standard since he had significant earning potential. On the other hand hand, nothing about his background (college dropout, profession was actor) suggests that he would have any understanding of finance and fiscal responsibility.

I believe he grew up UMC in connecticut with a dad who was a telecom executive, so, he did not come from a trailer park with zero role models for how to save money and spend money, like some teen actors.

It's absurdly entitled to expect to reside on a multi-million-dollar ranch when you don't have the funds. It's Texas. They could have found a perfectly nice house for a million.

No, not at all. I do think it is bad parenting for an educated person, which Vanderbeek was, for failing to ensure that his unemployed wife and six children are financially taken care of for at least one-year in an untimely death. He should have had the assets (which apparently he did with the new revelation of the home purchase), or life insurance. He was not a poor man unable to secure life insurance prior to his medical diagnosis. I know of people with limited education who have acquired life insurance because they loved their wife and/or children enough to consider their welfare if they are electrocuted while working on the third rail. I don't know why you posters are making excuses for this man. I think it has something to do with he looks like you and yours.
