| And today is the 13 year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting. So yes, the poster who is a professor and thinks about the possibility of an active shooter multiple times a week, and figures K - 12 teachers do as well…yes. We all should think about the possibility, in a movie theatre, a grocery store, a church, a synagogue. Don’t spend a lot of time on the worry, but know where are your multiple exits, and commit to some small action you can take to be part of a solution. For me, I’m a monthly supporter of Sandy Hook Promise. That’s all I do, but my little something is at work in the world, and that’s doable for me. |
+1 So fvked up. |
+1 I agree. Also, people wirh significant mental health issues should be hospitalized or living in strictly supervised group homes for life ( example-- the schizophrenic woman who recently stabbed a mother in Macys. She should not have been free to harm others when she "heard voices".) |
Can you say a little more about why you posted this? |
Ummm. Fixed it for you. |

The prof that taught the course was Jewish.
Professor of Economics, Faculty Associate of the Program in Judaic Studies, and Faculty Associate of the Population Studies and Training Center. Friedberg earned her Ph.D. at MIT, joining Brown as an Assistant Professor, and serving for four years on the faculty of the Department of Economics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Australia just had a mass shooting today at a Jewish gathering. I’m wondering if the Brown shooter (in his 30s) was an anti/Semitic hit ? But the prof wasn’t there because it was a study seasoned by a TA. |
| *session, not seasoned |
One of the reasons Rhode Island used to be a hot bed of auto theft was the ability to be outside state lines in any direction within an hour I don’t know what it’s like today with things like GPS and Onstar but the simplest thing to do would be to jump into your vehicle and hit 95 within a few minutes I didn’t go to Brown but I was a lawyer in Providence on Dyer St. for about ten years and lived next to campus. The only hotel I even remember was the Marriott downtown |
You have been gone a very long time. Providence is filled with luxury hotels now. |
What?? So?? Were those on lockdown at UVA also at Brown this weekend? Probably not. A different group of people had to experience yet another senseless day in good ole US of A |
This is the most probable. |
|
School shootings are so commonplace in the US that two Brown U. students in lockdown had already survived school shootings in the past. Normally those would seem like statistically improbable odds--being present at not one but TWO mass shootings. But this is America.
Two survivors of Brown University attack escaped other school shootings: Mia Tretta was shot in the abdomen in 2019 at a school near LA and Zoe Weissman witnessed a Florida shooting in 2018 https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/dec/14/two-survivors-of-brown-university-attack-escaped-other-school-shootings |
Exactly. Why? |
And something similar in MI. A student or a few who had witnessed a hs incident in MI (forgetting the name) went on to Michigan State where they also went through a lockdown on MSU's campus a few years ago. |
Prickly much? That was precisely my point. That school shootings are so commonplace in the US that thousands of students had to be on lockdown for many hours--fearing for their lives--not just at one university (UVA, 2022) but also at a second one (Brown U., 2025). |
