James Comey Indictment

NP. There are a lot of things I don't like about James Comey, but the man has the courage of his convictions here. He wants the matter laid bare in court.

This forces Comey to expend money in defense, but the prosecution has zero chance of success. It's going to be embarrassing.

The government asked for extended discovery due to the "complexity" of the case. They got side-eyed.

The government has yet to tell Comey exactly what he is being charged with since the government has not disclosed the identities of Persons 1 and 3.

They will file dispositive motions. Halligan was not validly appointed, malicious and selective prosecution (hundreds if not thousands of DJT tweets/truths), and others.

This will actually be kind of amusing to watch if you like watching the government get punted around like a football. It's the NFL vs. Pop Warner.

“Federal prosecutors investigating former FBI Director James Comey found that a key witness in the prosecution’s inquiry” would pose “likely insurmountable problems” for the prosecution.

The key witness contradicts “claims central to the already shaky case.” The witness “never served as an anonymous source for Comey,” and “said Comey also advised him not to speak to the press at all.”

I wonder if there will ever be a trial.

I'm sort of sad that the case probably won't go to trial. It would've been great to see Trump's DOJ get their a$$es kicked, and the Russia interference scandal be brought to light again.

I think there's a pretty good chance that Comey demands a speedy trial instead of trying for a pre-trial dismissal. He signaled that in his statement after the indictment, and it makes some sense since any dismissal will get litigated up to the Calvinball court.

The what?

PP is referring to the Supreme Court, which makes new law all the time regardless of precedent, like Calvin of Hobbes fame did with the rules of Calvinball, a game he made up.

I suspect his side wants to engage in discovery of the USG. Should be fun.

It was a reference in a dissent by Justice Jackson:

“This is Calvinball jurisprudence with a twist,” Jackson wrote. “Calvinball has only one rule: There are no fixed rules. We seem to have two: that one, and this administration always wins.”

Comey looks depressed on TV. I wonder why.

He always seem like Mr. confident. I wonder who deflated him.

Ha! Go Justice Jackson. I hadn't see that before.

Imagine Trump wasting months of your life and all your savings. You’d be depressed too.

I’m no fan of Comey, but Trump is a traitor and a crook and a pedophile and has NO business holding ANY public office at all.

Trump has a many-decades-long practice of punishing his perceived enemies by engaging them in costly baseless legal battles. This is business as usual for him. He loves to inflict pain on anyone who he perceives as crossing him. A USA Today analysis from 2016 found that over roughly 30 years, Trump and his businesses had been involved in about 3,500 legal cases in state and federal courts; in approximately 1900 of those cases, he or his businesses brought the charges.
