I keep getting Sydney Sweeney and Sabrina Carpenter mixed up.

The only thing I’ve seen this woman in is The White Lotus and I have no memory of her in that at all.

I was a teen in the late 90s/early 2000s at a time when only a specific look was considered marketable, and if you weren't white, it wasn't accessible to you. Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, etc etc. The ideal was white, skinny, and blonde, and that kind of marketing basically says, your beauty is not of value if you're not white.

I'm so glad to see that we've progressed since this time. Fenty beauty (thanks Rihanna) meant that good cosmetic products also included more shades of skin tone. More brands making more sizes of clothing, including models of all sizes and abilities, expanding what it meant to be valued for looks in this society.

Now that my daughter is coming into her teenage years, I'm sad to see this mono culture of beauty coming back. I'd hate to see her growing up with this kind of media influencing her self-esteem when we had just made a bit of progress a decade ago.

I am white and blonde and the same age as you. I don’t disagree with you that we have come, and needed to come, a very long way from the beauty ideals of the 90s. I’m delighted that there is a breadth of races and body types and looks that are marketable today. It’s just so obvious that this is what was needed. However I don’t believe that once ad that says, here’s a pretty young girl that was lucky she was born with good looks, means that we are going back to a single standard of what beauty is. It’s one ad, by one company. I must admit that there aren’t a whole lot of models that look like me anymore. And I think that’s totally ok, the world is much more diverse than skinny blonde women. I just worry that many people are being quick to say, no you can’t have a blonde white model, that’s not ok. Having every skin color depicted in advertising is ok, because literally every skin color is ok.

For decades, I've never taken offense if some totally average Black woman or man was praised as a "queen" or "king," but now some of you are having a complete meltdown because some randon advertising campaign plays on a white woman's attractiveness. Grow up.

I remember my husband talking about how weird looking she was in that. He was shocked that she was world famous for being hot.

This is hilarious. I would love to meet your husband.

"I'm shocked she is world famous for being hot. Big jugs and a toned body are not hot in my book, not for this guy. I like a girl who knows her way around a spreadsheet, if I may be so frank."

Next level. You got a keeper.

Her character was kind of creepy in that show. I thought SS did a good at it!

If you really wanted to extoll someone with "great genes," putting some GOAT athletes in the campaign would be more fitting.

Meh. This has always been AE’s audience. They never did that body positivity bullshit.

And maybe that’s why they are in the toilet these days.

Man! This forum isn't usually where I end up when I'm on dcum. But, as a heterosexual man, can someone..anyone, tell me why this woman is supposed to be the 'it girl' when it comes to looks. Is this supposed to be some kind of parody ? Can this Sweeney chick get more than one look from most boys on an American college campus ? Certainly not where I went to school. If she's what passes for hot these days,God help us all.

As for the ad, its very much in line with what a certain of this country believes in. There's an unmistakable double entendre there unless, of course, you CHOOSE to put on your blinders.

It’s fake outrage. This is a zillion dollar inorganic anti-white hoax.

Oh please. She’d be the hot “it” girl on any campus. She is obviously gorgeous by any metric and what puts her over the top is her doe eyes, it factor and charm. She has a magnetic personality.

That’s not to say I think she’s an incredible actress. I honestly haven’t watched anything she’s in but she does pop on camera and she’s very charming.

As another straight man, I had the same thought as PP. Her doe eyes are weird. She's got big boobs but big boobs aren't hard to come by. I probably see a woman as hot as her any time I go to the mall.
