Plane crash DCA?

Seems like an annual tradition that Congress approves more and more flights. Enough is enough. Time to cut back.

They need to build a new airport further away from the city, then shut DCA down. Reagan (like much in the area) was built in the 40s when there were far fewer people. DC has grown much too large to rely on such a small airport.

Plane was split into two and is sitting in about seven feet of water. The helicopter is upside down and bobbing in the water.

Reports say that the helicopter was asked to get a visual on the jet and may have been focused on the jet that was taking off right above it rather than seeing the one it ran into.

They did that. It’s called Dulles. DCA was supposed to be shut down when Dulles was built.

So very sad.

Dulles exists. It was supposed to be the busiest airport but National is nicer, and closer, so it is preferred and has become busier. But the traffic should go to Dulles. People can deal with the not-so-nice airport - and since the renovations, National isn't as nice as it was anymore anyway.

This is horribly tragic.

That’s great but Dulles has very few non stop short haul flights. They are all abroad or to the American west. We live much closer to IAD but they rarely have the flights we need. Either it’s not direct, way more expensive or very few time choices. We end up schlepping to DCA 80% of the time.

Where are you seeing that? I haven’t seen that reported

Keep the helicopters away from DCA. Pentagon officials can take cars.

My aviation buff 13 year old son mentioned this - thought it might be a test of the autonomous functionality in the Blackhawk.

I read an article about this from October 2024 and sent it to my spouse. My first thought was that this was the approved Black Hawk drone. But it sounds like soldiers were inside.

Do we need every TV news program covering this endlessly and reiterating the same thing over and over (we don’t know if there are any survivors and the river is cold etc)? This is a tragedy but there are a lot of other news stories that need to be told …

Absolutely. DCA needs to be shut down.

When the truck went off the George Washington bridge a week ago, there were no survivors.
You mean the Arlington Memorial Bridge?

I initially typed bridge and then thought I should add more description - should have double-checked what I was writing.

Yes, the truck that went off the Memorial Bridge last week. Both men were dead when they were recovered.
Yeah, too many crashes into the Potomac lately. Strange and sad.
