Not what this thread is about. You can eat edibles all day long. Just don't drive. I can't smell an edible so I don't really care. Heck, I don't care if shoot heroin in your own home. But weed smells gross and I don't want to walk through a cloud of it getting on and off the Metro. Smoke it at home and I've got no issues.

Continue crying about it, in fact, cry more and louder about it. I'm sure you'll eventually get your way.

This is exactly what smokers back in the '80s said. Look at how much has changed since then.

Exactly! If pot smokers could be more considerate, no one would care. I don't want you to go to jail for smoking pot and you won't. Consider that a win and don't leave a cloud of smoke for people to walk through. But you took it to the other extreme of now there is smoke everywhere and people are starting to think twice about it being legal. And when they put more restrictions on it, like they did with cigarettes, pot smokers will be the ones to blame.

Good thing I don’t have to give a damn about your personal issues. Mind your own business. If you leave your own home it is simply a universal fact of life that you may encounter disagreeable smells in public. Deal with it and stop trying to control how other people live.

Agreed 100%. I like to smoke cigarettes while flying, but ever since the US banned smoking on planes, I've had to do it in the lavatory (they really don't like that!), or while waiting at baggage claim. People give me all kinds of dirty looks, but they really need to just mind their own business.

They are giving you dirty looks because you are a POS. Not "giving a damn" about others doesn't make you cool. It makes you an entitled jerk. And that's what this thread is about.

To be clear, I was being facetious to make the connection between cigarette smokers and pot smokers. It's funny how some people here are essentially promoting behavior that has been seen as anti-social for smokers for at least 25 years.

Smokers are smokers, they willing inhale chemicals and toxins into their lungs that can cause cancer and other medical problems. Why do you need to separate them? That's all I need to know. Saying one substance is "less" dangerous than another is pointless, the person is still not bright enough to not inhale chemicals and carcinogens into their lungs. The end!

Me again. I think we're in agreement here. There are some posters on this thread who are making the case that pot smoke is no big deal and the rest of us need to get over it. Many of us, me included, disagree and are saying it's just like cigarette smoke that we as a society have regulated fairly heavily, but in policy and socially. Hence my post about pretending to be a douchey cigarette smoker to draw the parallel.

Yup. It's almost like pot smoking now is where cigarette smoking was back in 1960. Back in the "more doctors smoke Camels" era.

How is it so rampant when half the DC Metro population has some type of security clearance?

It's probably 10% of the working population, if that.

Actually in reality nobody is smelling pot smoke on an airplane so stupid comparison. Also, I see many of you talking about smelling it coming from a car but that is not illegal for tobacco either so once again that was a poor comparison. It’s also pretty rich of you to throw around “not giving a damn about others” while you rail against a law that reduces the number of responsible citizens that end up with jail time and a criminal record. Just admit that you selfishky want others to be punished as criminals just so that you don’t have to smell an odor that you don’t like. Totally clueless.

You're not worried about those drivers because...you're one of them, right? Or do you just salute their freedom as they pass by?

Hope you still cling to your idiotic "I'm not worried!) when you or someone you know ends up in an accident caused by a high driver. It's driving under the influence. Sadly, it's going to take someone dying in an accident caused by an addled pothead before there's any crackdown on this type of DUI.

Then why do legal marijuana states have lower traffic deaths than conservative prohibition states?

“Mississippi has the highest number of fatal car accidents per population with a death rate of 22.2 deaths per 100,000 people. This number correlates with Mississippi drivers admitting to spending 8% of driving time on their phones. The state also sits amongst the lowest seat belt usage in the country.”

Those rates of traffic deaths were the same before it became legal. If you're making the case weed makes safer drivers, I'm not sure what to tell you.

No I never said that “weed makes safer drivers” I simply discredited your claim that weed makes for dangerous roads by showing how legal states do not have more road deaths than prohibition states. If there was such an epidemic of unsafe stoned drivers then we would see a clear disparity between legal and illegal states. But there is no such statistical evidence so therefor it is safe to assume that you are wrong.

Let me know when you hear of anyone killed in an accident by a driver high on weed. Or even anyone arrested for DUI for weed. Doesn't count if they were like, also drunk or on meth etc.

You really want to take that position?

DP. Were you high when you read the multiple posts saying that nobody wants pot smokers to go to jail, and they don't, so that's a win. Just don't take it in the opposite direction and make us walk through your clouds of weed smoke.

Union market is a cloud of weed smoke after school.

Also, the prevalence of alcohol culture is such a red herring. Outside of actual alcoholics, I’ve never seen anyone in DC walking down the sidewalk at 10am swigging from an open container, yet I’ve now seen dozens and dozens of people smoking a joint or vaping at that hour. “It’s not addictive.” Then why are people getting high at all hours every day? And most people are not drinking when driving either, yet hotboxed cars are everywhere, again, all day long.

+1

Thank you for pointing this out. The supposed argument that weed smokers try to make -- "But, but, but alcoholllll is legal!" is such nonsense.

If my neighbor is drinking in his home, I can't see, hear or smell it. It has zero effect on me inside my home. But if my neighbor is toking, especially frequently, it absolutely affects me. Same would be true with tobacco, frankly, though weed seems worse than tobacco for permeating everything.

Agreed I had a neighbor who chain smoked, her house smelled, but my house didn’t smell and the neighborhood didn’t smell. Neighbors who live across from me smoke weed and the entire neighborhood smells. They moved thankfully. They were just all around nasty. I find people like that make bad neighbors for a lot of reasons.

Just spent the weekend in DC. Absolutely disgusting that the whole Mall and surroundings are a mix of ice cream truck exhaust and permanent pot fog. Shameful.

I have not read the thread but I get really pissed shen I smell skunk weed on the freaking road - or worse, the highway. Do people realize that it’s not legal to drive while stoned, FFS?
