OP sounds like an overgrown college student, ranting and raving about the mean white/republican/rich bogeymen while telling no one about her trust fund |
Why does this topic keep getting bumped???? |
It's Ground Hog Day and it has to be repeated and repeated and repeated until tomorrow. |
Do you always project this much or did you save it all up for this one thread? |
Can’t see any other explanation why op is so upset her 50 year old neighbors care about good schools and avoiding her cursing trump at the top of her lungs ![]() |
The person you responded to is most likely OP… |
Nope. Why are you people such unimaginative broken records? |
What is with this “striver” business and why do people seem to think it is bad?
|
OP, is Del Ray within the bounds of your decree? Like a lot of other posters, I also immediately thought of Takoma Park for you but saw that it’s out of bounds for you. Del Ray might be perfect. Would Mt. Pleasant be too much like moving back to Petworth? Also what about maybe Shirlington, could that be worth looking into? I really don’t know too much about it, but it has a small-town vibe that’s popular with a few chill progressives I know (they’re all white, but span a really wide range of ages/careers/politics/hobbies etc). Small sample size but hasn’t been mentioned yet so I thought I’d throw it out there. Also what about Rockville? Forget if that’s already been mentioned |
Also, I agree with the above! I really think it’s a culture difference, like public vs. private school. I initially wrote this overly-long post describing my values and experiences and confusion as to why I should be sneered at as a “striver,” but then I realized that those who don’t have similar feelings as I do about complacency (read: this has nothing to do with class or income or privilege) just aren’t going to get it. It sucks though when people who don’t get it label you as “competitive” when you’re trying to celebrate each other’s successes and share information in a way that you would find helpful or interesting yourself. Like if I was really so competitive, I would just keep everything to myself so I have an edge? What happened to “it takes a village”? |
This topic needs to die. It has nothing to do with real estate. |
It's no different than other desirable parts of NOVA. All the same. Just with the Vienna folks, they have an added layer of town pride that other places don't. |
I'd like to see how long we can all keep it alive. |
Yeah, it also sucks when you’re laid back and have interest other than endless, senseless competition over everything and get labeled as complacent. Interesting point that bragging negates competitiveness because you’re somehow giving up an advantage. I don’t think it diminishes competitiveness, just points to a flaw in strategy. |
It’s more like they’re missing the extra layer of skin people in other places have that would allow them to carry on even if OP found them also to be conformist drones, but carry on. |
