This would be reverse racism against white people. Not good either.

Not these days in MR. It’s very white.

Incorrect. Here's the demographics of Mt Rainier:

White: 25%
Black: 45%
Asian: 1.8%
2+ Races: 5%
Hispanic: 32.8%
White non-Hispanic: 18.8%

That’s nice but I live in MR close to that pool and all my neighbors are white now. All of them.

Doubt the demographics changed that much from July 2021 and today. Also, census data is probably better than your anecdotal observations.

This is much whiter than the DC areas near the pool. So, it seems like limiting by zip code might not do what you think it will do.

More community days each week? No
Weight the wait list? No
Separate wait lists? No
Wait lists that give preference to those living within near the pool? No
Expand the pool with the city? No

It sure seems like this progressive pool wants to keep a whole lot of the communities out.

Go out and build your own membership based private pool. Set whatever rules you want. This private pool club can set its own rules. If you do no like them, so what. Get a life.

Exactly. And it’s only getting whiter.

The recent upswing in demand is simply the number of families with young kids moving into Brookland, Woodridge and Mount Rainier. Are the Cheverly people pissed about who belongs to Cheverly? Because that’s where folks from the Hill go. Or Adelphi? Families with young kids are going to want to join a pool rather than go to mediocre county or DC pools.

PGP is not a fancy pool at all- just a coop with with a cement pool house and a nasty damp locker room.

Here is a good article on the history of the membership, its decline, and then exponential spike in membership and waitlist.

https://streetcarsuburbs.news/making-a-splash-prince-georges-pool/

The pool, located on Buchanan Street in Mount Rainier, counts 113 Hyattsville families among its members. But many more have been shut out since a membership cap was imposed during the summer of 2011. The next season, the few open slots sold out in six minutes.

As of August 1, there were 820 names on the waiting list for individual or family memberships. With a current turnover rate of 7 percent, it would take 15 years to move through the list.

After years in the red, Prince George’s Pool now has more people on the waiting list than on the membership roster.

How is that possible, when as recently as 2004 the pool’s financial situation cast doubts on its very survival? The maintenance, management and insurance expenses associated with neighborhood pools has forced others in the area to close, including University Hills Pool.

I don't think that would be possible. Back when they were having trouble with finances they sold that large field by them to the county or city. It's too bad, because it could have been used to expand the pool area or the small parking area now that there are so many members and wanting to be members, but the city/county won't sell it back from what I heard. That is why parking is so terrible and so many people end up parking at Thomas Stone school and walking over from there.

Get the County to build its own publicly financed pool on that land.

I don't understand who is going to this pool, it touches ne and is in pg county. Most AA don't like swimming and like to use the public pool as it's not a thing they value paying for.

I love it when UMC white people from DC and MoCo try to put minorities in their place. The true feelings of members from this pool is on full display here.

I stand corrected. The implicit racism of PG pool members is now becoming explicit. Wow, just wow.

Anonymous wrote:Most MoCo pools have neighborhood or zip code restrictions. That is, you need to live close to the pool to be a member. That’s how it works with the one our family goes to. If you buy a house in the neighborhood, you can join the list or the home’s seller can pass on their membership to you. You can’t pass on your membership to a family member who lives outside the neighborhood.

It sounds like the issue with PGP is that the pool is dominated by outsiders from DC and MoCo. No way will that group be incentivized to change the by-laws to prioritize neighborhood residents or disallow passing down their membership to a family member. Essentially, you have a pool that’s been colonized by outsiders.

Ugly optics.

Most?? Which pools are those? The two in Bethesda, one in N. Bethesda, and at least one in Potomac we've attend do not.

Notice how all these supposed pg pool members don’t call out others who post racist s*it like this since it supports their interests?

Why would you assume this person is a PG Pool member?

Notably that article explains that membership was extended to DC SPECIFICALLY TO INCREASE DIVERSITY.

Yet the pool is still so so white decades later.
