When will the oak mite reign of itchiness end?

The cicada eggs should be hatching, so the mites will be out of food soon. Once they're out of food, they will start dropping like crazy from trees. But maybe it will be a short surge and we don't have to wait until frost (they won't have anything to eat so how can they survive until November).

To sit on my front porch, I wore jeans and a lightweight long sleeve jacket in 90 degree weather. The mites did not get me that time, and I felt victorious.

Oh my G you guys weren’t kidding. I’ve been back in DC for 48hrs only and COVERED in bites. I’m so uncomfortable - not sure how I will sleep tonight I am so itchy. And yes, was by the pool yesterday and have lots around my bikini line. What in the world. I thought things couldn’t get worse ….

Anyone else have O blood? My mom told me we get bit more by everything. So curious if there is any truth to that

It took about 8 days for mine to stop itching. And they blistered and oozed in the meantime. So gross.

I have type A blood (to answer PPs question). I’m always getting attacked by bugs.

How can you tell these apart from mosquito bites? DD has several huge welts on her back. She generally has a bad reaction to mosquito bites but these seem more red. She has had them for maybe a week. At first they looked like regular mosquito bites but have gotten worse. Is this typical of mite bites?

Not a single bite this year and I am also doing a lot of gardening. I do have two small oak trees. 2 cherries, 2 birch, 1 plum, 1 bradford pear and everything was covered with cicadas and they did massive damage. But this year there has been very few mosquitos, gnats etc.

When ddt was in use we didn't have these issues with mites and bed bugs

O blood here. Bugs love me. I started to notice an itchy insect bite on my neck 7/22. Stayed puffy and itchy through the next week, then gradually went away. Didn't know what it was until i saw an article about the oak mite. Since then i've gotten a dozen others, mostly on my neck and shoulders. I can tough it out through mosquito bites, but these are another level of bad. CVS was out of calimine lotion today when i went, i'm trying out some spray for now. Hot showers do help.

Yes, that sounds like them. Plus they have a little pimple in the middle.

A+ and bugs LOVE me. They can’t get enough of me. My mom is O- and bugs love her too. My dad never gets bit even though he has high blood pressure, diabetes (shouldn’t he be sweeter?) and is also A+.

I’d like to know what Dh is. He never gets bit. Probably because they’re too busy making a beeline for me

True, but we also lost much of our bald eagle population, so there's that.

Did you type that with 11 fingers, child of DDT?

I have two bites, one on my stomach and one by my armpit. Both by the bra line. But I noticed then in the morning. From mites or something in my bed? Very red. Itchy for a few days.

Interesting. The kids take showers and DD has not complained at all. DS has been covered and scratches until he bleeds sometimes. It’s bad. I have bites on my upper body and am so itchy all over.
