It's a hobby, OP.
The costs are sunk.
If it keeps him out of trouble, why not?

I would have difficulty countenancing repairing such a polluting, unsafe vehicle, but if he's very emotionally attached to it, and would be wasting his time on stupid things no matter what, then why not this?

He's always managing to find trouble. Someone who commented earlier about chasing skirts is not far off. I love him but want him to grow up.

ADHD? Is there something there that could be treated? Because meds for ADHD work wonders. Just saying...

ADHD? You can't be serious? The guy just wants to work on his Jeep and now he has ADHD? Unreal.

That's a toxic attitude. There are things that men do that women roll their eyes at, and there are things that women do that men have the same reaction with. Men mature later during the first 40 years of their life than women. This is biology, nothing is broken, nothing for you to fix. Men are biologically predisposed to find and fix problems using their hands. Again, nothing is wrong with this, there is nothing to fix. What you can do is to make sure his hobby does not interfere with his responsibilities to provide and protect, the family's finances, and your normal needs for his time and attention. Beyond that, it's irrational to criticize him for doing something that he enjoys and takes pride in. If you keep doing this or escalate an otherwise benign situation, it will lead to resentment, breakdown in communications, and sour your relationship.

I see this as only a problem of it impacts you guys financially and preventing you from getting a safe family car. But if the family has a safe, reliable car that is taken car of, than let it be. I have a 45 year vintage car that I drive and take car of that I enjoy and doesn’t impact the family finances even though it’s a two seater. It’s not a project car and I give it a blank check for things I want to update on it.

Jesus, lady. The poor guy just wants to work on his TJ and take it out and use it as intended. It's called a hobby. Perhaps you should get one.

As a gift, take it to a Jeep place and get it fixed. Done.

+ 1 million. This isn’t about the Jeep. This is about control.
