| Is there any update on the bystanders who were shot by police? |
The article said that the guy took the officers gun and shot himself. The officer did NOT shoot and kill the guy. |
Link? All I’ve seen said other cops shot the knife guy. No other victims. |
| WTOP says knife man shot himself with officer’s weapon (no indication if purposeful or unintentionally in the struggle) and was killed by other police. Mental illness may be relevant here but not guns unless somebody thinks police shouldn’t have them either. |
...and you just know there are people on here who do.... |
Just one bystander was wounded and they report the injuries to be non-life-threatening. They were released from the hospital yesterday. The two articles I've read today both state the same: guy got off the bus, walked up to the officer & stabbed him in the neck, he and the officer wrestled where the guy killed the officer, and then the guy took took the officer's service weapon & shot himself. One specifically stated he took the service weapon and committed suicide, dying on the scene. The other article stated that he took the weapon and shot himself before other offices arrived and "engaged with him" and he was pronounced at the hospital. |
They seem to do okay in the UK without guns. Why? Because most citizens also do not have access to guns. Hmm. |
Yeah, the US isn’t the UK. And that’s no accident. And as for “doing OK” do you use kitchen knives, steak knives, even butter knives?” Because in the UK the constabulary shudders in horror at the thought of mere mortals having such hideously deadly objects, just waiting to leap up of their own accord and do “sharp object violence.” |
| And the image of the Bobby twirling his little truncheon as he smilingly walks his beat, touching the brim of his hat to the ladies he passes is a fabrication. Britain has plenty of “armed police” who deploy with automatic weapons. |
You're a moron. |
| Guns, knives, what’s the difference? They should all be banned. They have no purpose other than murder. |
| Is there really no more information on the guy who did it? You’d think this would be a national news story. |
There was! On wjla. He was told never to go back to Georgia due to his criminal and crazy behavior. He then traveled to DC. |
+1 Britain also has wall to wall cameras that they are willing to use to solve crimes. Try asking DC police to pull video footage to track down a stolen car etc. Cameras are sporadically placed and near impossible to access, UNLESS its to collect a fine. As to no guns--UK has incredible knife violence and horrifyingly, acid attacks. |
Okay, then. I'll give up my guns as soon as all those criminals buying them off the black market give up theirs. Sounds pretty simple. I'm sure we can make that happen. |
